I use the zoot tri 6" and I really like them. They play well with my adamo saddle. The ‘pad’ is just a piece of the old school fleece. My chicken legs don’t do well in the longer tri shorts so I like the fact that they are a shorter cut. Pockets on the hip are handy as well. I like a minimalist short so it was great for me. Don’t know about the other kind.

I’ve been wearing the Zoot Ultra racesuit on every single ride I have done since March and am happy with them. They’re showing some wear though which I think is pretty early (seam by the leg elastic is unraveled for example). But the price could not be beat (~ $56 for the suit on close out) and I’ve spent a full day in them with no issues.
I love the CompressRx tri shorts. They are extremely tight fitting, and there is very little movement between the shorts and your skin. As a result, I never feel any friction from the shorts rubbing me. They also dry extremely fast and provide compression.
The downsides are that they are tough to get on compared to other shorts. Just be careful when that you pull them on by the legs and no by just grabbing waistline. Also, the seams near the leg openings were a minor annoyance for my first two or three rides until I broke the shorts in.
Overall, though, these are my favorite tri shorts by far. I’ve tried other shorts by Zoot, Oomph, Craft, DeSoto, Pearl Izumi, and probably a few others, and the Zoot CompressRx are a clear winner.
Disclaimer: I’m on the Zoot Ultra team. That said, if I get dropped next year these shorts will still be my go to tri short.
I use, and like, the Zoot TriFit 6" shorts, minimal chamois, etc. However, treat them with TLC when washing/drying, the adhesive labels/logos are delicate and may peel.
