Zoot shoes? Feedback from users?

I have been eyeing them since the adds started to appear, and I am considering them for the season.

Any user have any feedback on them??? I have always worn Asics Gel Nimbus or Landreth, how would they compare??

I love them - I got them the day before Kona and raced in them and they were perfect. No blisters, and no squishing. The draining really works. I don’t know about the comparison to the shoes you’re using, as I’ve never tried those, but of all my racing flats, these are the lightest and are very much a flat. My Saucony Fastwitch are heavier and more supportive, and they’re a pretty light shoe. I will race in the Zoots again this year - I’ll likely use the flats for 1/2s and shorter, and the trainer or the tempo for full marathons in the future.

Hope that helps some.

As much as i dislike spending $120 on a shoe, im going to have a chance to pick a pair up on tuesday or wednesday. I’ll have to do some runs in them to see if they’ll work for my half mary on saturday. I’ll let you know how they work out after a few runs.

Why wear them for a “run-only” event (i.e., not a triathlon)? I’d think you’d lose cushioning and support for the sake of the drainability, which, unless it will be raining during your race, probably won’t be helpful.

There have been a few threads about the new ZOOT shoes including this one. I have been running on the shoes since September and still love them. They are my favorite running shoe of all time by far and hold up incredibly well. More details (and some photos) are on the other thread I linked to. Let me know if you want any other info.

Chances are i will be pouring water on my head as it will likely be in the 70’s and i should be running a good sub 6min pace! Plus, they are RUNNING shoes last time i checked, not just tri shoes  The cushioning part i think will be fine but thats part of finding out if these are going to be my shoes for Oceanside 70.3 in march

Thought id check back in after my first run in the shoes tonight, some people are probably interested. I went with the racer(flat) even though i typically run in a shoe that has light stability and weighs around the same(brooks racer st3). The shoe fits great, the best thing i can compare it to is for anyone who scuba dives; the booties you wear underneath your open heel flippers. It feels very similar, very uniform with a little flexibility but still supportive. Lace system seems great, no problems there. Inside feels very comfortable with no seams(sp?). I thought the heel tab being as high as it is would be a problem but i didnt find it to be, yes i ran sockless. Fitwise, in regards to sizing, i am a half size smaller than every single other pair of running shoes ive bought. Im always a size 11 in every shoe i can remember, 10 1/2 is perfect for this one. If you are ordering online i would keep that in mind. I also tried on the tempo but found the heel to be too high and i dont need very much stability, if any, as ive ran a mary in neutral shoes without incident before. I land midfoot and the flats seemed like they would be more accomidating for that running style wiht the lower heel. Im not an expert but i would think that reasoning is pretty sound? I know they felt comfortable and my stride felt perfect even up to race pace. I only ran around 4 miles this evening because of a half mary on sunday but i dont foresee any reasons to not run in them(sockless) this weekend.

I didn’t know these shoes were available to the public yet?!! I would assume the people running in them are in some way affiliated with Zoot. Don’t get me wrong, the shoes look great and I will be trying a pair and deciding for myself. Like I did with Newtons. However, runlikeamotherand Ryan, are you a sponsored athlete? That is, did you buy your shoes or were they given to you? That question stands for all the people that respond here. I would love to have run in these shoes, but I have not had the oportunity. Does the opportunity exist?

I pre-oredered a pair and they arrived yesterday. Did not get a chance to run in them yet, will do so this weekend.

Ordered a pair last week from trisports, with limited availability. Mine should arrive Tuesday, hopefully they fit ok. No local shops had them in stock near me.

I was offered a test pair last year but they were a size too big for me, everyone else that I know that has used them loved them.
Gear for Multisport http://www.gearformultisport.com/ has them in stock and they are also having Zoot wet suit Demo’s for the next couple of days, located in the National Training Center (Clermont).

Was at my local tri shop , Tri on the Run, here in Houston yesterday. The guy working the store had on a pair on and said they were the most comfortable shoes he had run in. Showed me the tri features of the quick lace system, drain holes for water, etc.
Also told me they run true to size i.e. street shoe size.

Supposed to be in stock next week, if they fit well I will probably try a pair out.

anyone here is runs in Zoot shoes, have you also tested Newtons? what was your opinion on them?

I pre-ordered a pair from trisports and they arrived yesterday.
They are headed back today. I wish there was a local place to try these on before. oh well.

The toe box for me was way tight, width wise, I had plenty of room in front of my toes but it felt like I was over the edge and bulging out on the sides. I had them on for just a few minutes and was feeling too much pressure to even attempt a run.

I liked all the other features, but just not wide enough for me.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I am going to try and hunt down a pair to try on. I am heavier runner 6’ 185 so I might start with ultra tt. If I end up getting a pair I will post a follow up here. Thanks again for the feedback. I am on the long road recovering from an Achilles rupture so I need some motivation in the form of new stuff:)

Follow the link RL_SD put up and look for my review.

I tried both Newtons and Zoot shoes, I actually like them both as they seem
to be made for forefoot strikers as opposed to other shoes with huge heals
like my old Asics that I didn’t like anymore after changing running styles.

The advantage of the Zoot shoe is that it is a one piece slipper design
so it’s easier to get on in a hurry in transition but both Newtons and Zoot
are nice shoes if you are a forefoot striker.

I’ve run my IM marathon PB in Zoots and my open marathon PB in Newtons

Both very nice shoes, I would highly recommend you give the Zoot shoes a
try. Like every other piece of equipment we buy you may like them or you may
not but hell it’s alot less expensive to test a running shoe than it is to test a
new bike frame (one 1/2 hour test ride the shop might let you have in not a real test)

I hope you’ll like the Zoot shoes I know I did and I really got to test them.

Luke’s has them. Picked up a pair of the trainers today. The high part on the heal (where you grab to put them on) was visibly different. However, ran on the treadmill in the store for a few minutes and no issue. It is not stiff like a traditional show. Very Nike-free like, but the lacing system is slick. Will need to put some more miles on them in barefeet to see if they meet that need (I usually wear socks for blisters).

I ran a half mary in them today and threw a ton of water on my head. Shoes never felt heavier, never felt or sounded squishy even though im sure a ton of water made their way onto/into the shoes. I also have no blisters or any of that fun stuff, put zero bodyglide on my feet or achilles area.

How do you compare the sizing from other brands? They fit larger, smaller or the same as other brands. FYI, I train and race in Mizunos, Precision’s and Idaten’s…

Size 11 for mizuno, brooks, asics. Size 10 1/2 zoot racer
