I am looking for a good tri kit (2 piece) for the upcoming lake placid Ironman.
I was look at 2xu, and maybe zoot
first - any recommendations for those who have used them for a full Ironman?
or other recommended brands
second, does anyone know of any good discount codes to help bring price down a bit… they look a bit pricy.
Email 2XU, tell them you’re a USAT member and they’ll reply back to you with a unique one time use code for 20 or 25% off can’t remember. You can email each time you need to buy from them. Also I’d sign up to the email list for 2XU, they have some pretty decent sales throughout the year.
I am impartial on what I wear but I have never been disappointed by Zoot. Maybe the only negative thing I could say is that their gear only lasts a few seasons? But do you really want it lasting any longer? Affordable, comfortable, and functional.
As a heads up, IRONMAN’s expos have been pretty weak this year, so don’t expect any vendors on-site selling; purchase in advanced.
Just my opinion (13 IM, I would think has some credibility)
I personally enjoy Zoot’s gear. I did my first Ironman in a 2XU because I got it cheap at a local tri-shop. I personally race in Zoot’s racesuit as opposed to the two piece you are seeking. I believe there is a 20% or 25% discount code floating around somewhere. I will look for it and DM you!
You are correct, the gear last but a few seasons but given the amount of time we spend training, it is a wonder they last that long, lol! They do refresh their line quite a bit and their newest Stars and Stripes makes it difficult not to open the wallet. And the expos at IM have been subpar, but we are coming out of Covid, so I would hope that it gets better with time!

I’m a Zoot guy but the Stars and Stripes isn’t my style. I don’t want to look like Captain America. They’re just capitalizing on it being an Olympic year.
I want to buy another suit but their current styles are hideous. The race suits with matching top and bottom colors look best (leaning appearance). Mismatched tops and bottoms resemble two piece suits and aren’t flattering.
I bought a suit last season the Tokyo Blue and it’s so dope. They haven’t put out a single tri suit I’d want to buy since due to some pretty weak designs.
how are the shorts padding for Ironman distance? I am a middle of the pack guy. wondering if tri shorts will work ok or should I use my usual bike shorts then change into runinng shorts
The tri shorts have a thinner pad when compared to standard bike shorts where the pad is thicker. You might be able to build up the tolerance for them, lol! My suggestion, if you have the funds, is to buy a pair of tri shorts and see if they work for those long rides. If they don’t, then you can at least use them inside on the trainer.
