I just got a new aero bar set up. Got a Easton Delta Force Base Bar (its awesome!) and Zipp Vuka clips with chicane bends (noy so awesome, yet). I bought the Zipps as I had a Syntace set up before, and I wanted a more aero chicane grip instead of S-Bends.
The Vuka arm pad rests (elbow rest pads) are just too narrow for me at the widest setting. My shoulders are constricted, my lungs are constricted, and it feels like crap. I spent too much money to feel like crap!
So, oh wise ones, what has anyone done to widen the distance between the pads? To me, the only option I see is to machine a new base to which they mount. Anything smarter and easier than that?
All you can to is turn the chicane bends inward toward each other, narrowing the distance between your hands. This will have the same effect as moving the arm rests out.
TT Racer: I tried this while riding today. It doesnt help, my shoulders are just too scrunched to breathe properly. I feel like Im in a straight jacket!
Owen: Thanks for this link. I thought have thought to check this myself. This looks like the same part they come with for adjustment. I wonder if its additional adjustment, like by slding over the ends of the existant wings? Zipp has a toll free CS number. Of course its only open M-F! I’ll call them Monday am.
How much time have you spent adjusting to the position? If less than a couple weeks of solid riding in the bars, give it more time. Otherwise Ebay them and try something else.
You may have to accept that part is not suitable for your body, fit is all in tri. you could def buy something more adjustable …just prob not a one piece setup.
I encounter this a lot in fits, its restricting
I have a set of Vuka Clips. The aero pad wing extension kit from the link is included in the Clips. There are three sets of holes on the aluminum “wings”, as well as three sets of holes on the carbon arm pad holders. If you put it on the widest setting for both the holders and the wings, they’ll be set out pretty wide. I have mine in the widest hole on the wings and middle hole on the carbon pad holders - it feels about the same width as my old Vision tech bars in their widest position. Your other option is to unclamp the actual clip-ons and set them wider apart… not sure if this is possible with your base bar. Profile-Design makes a base bar called the Stoker 26 that is a constant diameter for the entire bar; you can set the clip-ons as wide as you want, or as narrow as your stem will allow.
