Zipp Tires - tried them?

Has anyone tried Zipp tires? Thoughts? What’s the max pressure?

Thanks!

Kelly

I have them on a set of 909s. Max Pressure is 140. These are my first tubulars, so I have no basis to form a comparative analysis. I can say I’ve raced about 10 times on them and they seem to be doing the job.

Yep, I am sure you will find much debate about which wheel is the “best” wheel on this forum. Zipp’s are undiluted, even given their popularity, and continue to offer state of the art technology, quality, and durability. If you can afford a set of wheels from these folks, I would say that you will be afforded one of the finest wheel sets in the industry. Given your level of cycling is at or near the top of your age group, You WILL notice a difference. If a mop or bop’er you should notice their potential. Light, sturdy wheels are weapons for the elite or can demonstrate potential for the rest of us. I have been riding Zipp’s 404’s for a year in training, no issues other than Am I worthy?

UH… (sigh) he said: “Zipp tires…”

They’re good tires, made in Asia using a tread mold from a “well-known former European manufacturer” and designed to interface aerodynamically well with the Zipp wheels.

Uh, yeah, zipp tires.

I also had 2 sets on a 909 set last season. This year I’m back on Competition Conti’s. I must admit the Zipps seemed to 1) Loose pressure over longer periods (always check if you rack day before) 2) They got hard at the seam where the glue joined 3) Harsher ride than Conit’s

All in all a good Tub, but you’ll e better off with Conti’s on your 909 or even Tufo’s.

My .02c from experience!

Thanks for the feedback.

I’m running Zipp 909’s. Have used Conti Competition, and veloflex record tubulars. I’m interested in getting a set of slicks this year, looking at both the Zipp and Tufo tires.

The reason the Zipp’s loose air quickly is they have a latex tube. I always wonder how much pressure they loose between when you pump them in the morning and when you get off the bike at an IM distance.

Thanks again!
