Is there any performance (speed) benefit going with a Zipp super 9 instead of a HED Jet Disc plus?
Seems that weight is pretty much the same.
Zipp super 9 is more than double the price of a Hed Jet Disc plus.
But very interested in these two as options.
I’d think that aero performance is going to be more or less the same between the two. Especially when you consider the interactions with the frame, tire, etc, it’s impossible to say that one is absolutely faster than the other.
The Zipp is a structural carbon disc whereas the HED is a spoked wheel with a carbon cover. So the Zipp will have better power transfer and less flex under load, but it will be a harsher ride. The flex in the HED may not be noticeable unless you’re out of the saddle and really mashing on the pedals though.
I got a HED Jet Plus Disc a few weeks ago. I’ve only ridden it a few times so far but I like it so far. Never ridden a Super 9.
I’ve had both and prefer the Super9. The Jet Disc is a really nice wheel though and biggest benefit is the comfort. If I was racing longer distances and especially on crappy roads, I’d go for the HED. The Super9 can’t be beat in terms of power transfer, it just feels snappy and seems to keep the speed really well. What it really comes down to are types of races (distances, technical, road surface, etc.) and preference (rider style I guess as well…)

I can’t run a Super 9 on my bike because the derailleur cage rubs against the wheel in the largest sprocket. The HED Jet bows in nicely and there is lots more clearance for me. As an aside, the JET+ Disc is aluminum braking, 21mm internally diameter so your tires will be wider and you run less pressure. You can also get the Black treatment, which is a etched braked track which has incredible stopping power IME even over the already vastly superior standard aluminum.
Unless it tests faster aerodynamically, I can’t see a reason to opt for a Zipp over a HED.

I’ve also had both… ended up keeping the Zipp…but the HED has it beat by miles in comfort. Zipp is more of a race only wheel… I’d happily train everyday with an HED, no so much with the zipp on some norcal crappy roads.
I’ve owned both.
The ride quality on the Zipp is superior: it was just smoother—mind you, I really like a “firm” ride, and a stiff wheel. The Hed was nice, but occasionally came out of true (this is impossible on the Zipp).
Go Zipp Super9 cc.
Thanks everyone for the information provided! It really helps.
Frankly it all depends what you are running up front. I’ve got an 808 FC with black decals. I’m looking to invest in a super 9 with black decals for 2017. If I bought the HED, it just wouldn’t match.

go sticker less…matching is for the sponsored
my current combo is an old Corima 4 spoke front with Zipp Super9 disc…but in the past I’ve run HED,Enve and Xentis front and HED,Zipp and Shimano ProDisc rear… Other then HED3/HED disc… I never matched. Ideally I want a Textreme front and a lightweight autobahn disc.
If you flat with a jet plus call sag
the zipp just change the tire
.
Definitely not as cool, but anyone know how a wheel jacket performs vs these wheels?
so with a HED jet plus disc, if you flat you cannot just change the tube? how is it different with a super 9?
it just takes a little more time to unseat the tire from both sides of the rim, so add 20-40 sec to change time
.
Once you are used to it, I have found that changing tires on jet+ rims is no more difficult than on other rims i have owned.
