I cant seem to find any info on this subject other then a discussion about Tony Martin at Katusha from a while ago.
Ive just ordered a P5 frameset, and need new wheels with it since going to Disc.
Ive decided i’ll be getting a Super-9 rear wheel, but am undecided on the front yet, should I go 808 or 858? Ive never seen any data from Zipp by how much the 858 is faster over the 808 or that it even is faster at all.
I come from a ‘Super-9 and 808 front’ rim brake setup and never had handling issues.
The 858 should be easier to handle in strong crosswind due to the sawtooth design, which “continues to shed air pressure” buildup. Don’t know how much faster the 858 is over the 808.

Its because its neither faster nor handles better. They haven’t released any data either, just marketing. Don’t get me wrong, they are both great wheels. Source, I have an 858 and the lady has my old 808.
I’ve owned both the 858 (which came OEM on my Speedmax) and 808 NSW tubeless ready.
Borrowed as set of my friends 808s, which I felt handled better. Sold the 858s (for a mighty loss) and bought the 808s. So really put my money where my mouth is.
The 858s handle really weird. They sort of catch the wind more than the 808, but in small amounts. The wheel sort of “wobbles†and comes back into line sometimes, whereas a “normal†deep wheel needs some steering input to correct. It’s just a very different feel to any other deep wheel I’ve ridden. Maybe you could get used to it. Maybe not.
The other advantage of the 808 is a wider inner width and ability to run tubeless.
Just going to run Latex anyway on the TT/Short Distance tri bike. My long distance bike is set up tubeless.
Will most likely pick a stock 808 then and switch the bearings to C-Bear ones. Guy lives pretty much down the road, and his bearings are the best out there in my opinion. Should perform better than an 808 NSW then
The Cognition hubs are awesome descending and coast almost completely silent (and I like quiet hubs), but they do feel kind of draggy/boggy initially and don’t engage as fast as my various Campy hubs nor my Enve wheels with the ENVE Carbon hubs with ceramic bearings.
