Vuka Bars are back ordered so I was given the HED Corsair Bars as another choice. It will used on a P4. I can have the HED’s now or wait, for I don’t know how long, for the Zipps. I have no experience with either. Thanks
How low do you want to go? I don’t know much about the Zipp bars, but I have the Corsairs on my P4. I had to get a -25 degree stem to achieve the same kind of drop that I had previously using Easton Attacks. The Corsairs are a bit hard to set up low, but obviously, almost anything can be achieved via the stem. Aside from the high stack of the corsairs, I like them.
Here’s a pic of my setup:

I ordered that stem off of Bontrager’s website.
.
I’ve got the older version HED Black Dogs with drop. (not UCI approved) and I really like them. The quality build into these bars is really great.
What stem is that, Bob? And is it 26.0? My old Look carbon stem is showing too much age for my comfort…too much trainer sweat, I guess. I need to replace the 90mm stem that I use with my Hed Aerobars (the original version). And I’ve been looking for white.
Thanks,

Apparently 31.8 only.
I’m may have a similar issue with a new frame I’m looking at. Your stem seems to be a perfect solution. Is it the 105mm? Also How many millimeters does it place you down from say a -17 which would be parallel to the to the ground?
I used to ride on HED bars. I have switched to the ZIPP VukaAero and they are great. I like them so much that I have to sets, one on my race bike and one on my training bike. I think that they are awesome bars, if I were you I would wait for the ZIPPs
Thanks for the info. I was leaning toward waiting. What do you like better about the Zipps?
Anything with Zipp on it is faster and better right?
Actually I just think that for one the Zipp bars fit how I am built better. I am more comfortable when I am in the Aero position. Also when I am no in the aero position my hands are more comfortable. Just sort of how the hand grip area is molded seems to fit will in my hands. More so than the HED bars. They also have a cleaner look to them.
The down side is there can be issues with the internal cable routing. Zipp made a mistake when they molded my new bars and they have to replace them. No big deal, just have to wait a few weeks. The good think is, Zipp is a great company and they want to put the best product out there and if there is an issue with what you get they will make it right…
I really dislike purchasing anything that fit and comfort is the most important factor by brand name. No matter what brand if it fits you and your comfortable on the bike buy it and use it.
I’ve also ridden both
While the Vuka is a nice bar - I found the collete system limited and the bars themselves didn’t allow the level of adjustability I needed.
I don’t ride a radical or unusual position - but I just felt limited - they also felt heavy - but I don’t know the weight.
I switched from the Vuka to the Hed Vantage 8 - which I loved and from there went over to the Blackdog with drop/pursuit position. I absolutely LOVED the limitless position adjustments I was able to make - I loved the hand grip position - seemed ergonomically correct - and the adjustability on the pads was great too.
Having said that - addressing fit and adjustability - I also think they happen to look cooler and they are less expensive.
I would try to get in front of or onto a bike which has both installed so you can make your own assessment.
It is a personal choice - my choice - HED hands down
The Hed bar is essentially a basebar/clip on set up. A very nice basebar/clip on set up but thats what it is none the less.
The Zipp bar is a completely integrated set up. Less bolts hanging in the wind, a little smoother looking around the stem clamp and pad area.
I’ve not ridden the Zipp’s but a good friend has a set so I’ve gotten a chance to look and ask questions about them from him, see how they hold up over time. I’ve ridden the Hed Vantage 8, which is very similar to the Corsair except for the bar grip position.
Personally I found the Hed’s fool proof in adjustability and setup, basically what you would expect from a clip on system. It’s quite a bit lighter. One thing I didn’t like was that in order to route my cables internally I had to drill holes in the extensions(aluminum extensions). I don’t know if the Corsair has solved this issue.
Problems I’ve heard of with the Zipp set up include the base bar grip pads coming off and the collet system being difficult to get perfect.
I’d take either one though.
Bob,
How do you like the Lazy-S bend compared to ski or regular S? I’ve been thinking they might be THE bend but have been happy enough with Zipp S’s that I haven’t pulled the trigger yet…
As is always the case wiith your bikes, the P4 is looking clean and mean.
Mike…
