Zipp 900 tubular or Zipp Super-9?

After some research I am trying to figure out which Zipp would be a better option for me. I haven’t found any posts that directly compared these two discs from my search. Maybe I missed them? Most seem to compare one of these against the Sub-9. I currently have a P3, so the Sub-9 is out. I am hoping to get a Felt DA as my next frame eventually. So maybe at that time I could consider a Sub-9.

Looking at Zipp’s website, the 900 disc is narrower at 20.32mm while the Super-9 is 27.5mm wide. The 900 is lighter by ~60g (936g vs 995g). The Super-9 is also stiffer by 40% from what I have read around on other reviews. The Super-9 is also close to the Sub-9 in aero, but requires the use of the Zipp Tangente tire which I do not run and don’t want to run.

So are the aero benefits of the Super-9 taken away then by not running the Zipp tubular? I am a bit of a bigger guy at 165-170. So I assume I would benefit from the stiffer disc, or is the 900 disc good enough for a guy like me?

The benefits do not “disappear” with a different tire by any means. Wind tunnel tests are just dependent on tire choice, so the data is only definitely accurate for the tired used in the test. The 900 is plenty stiff. The Super9 was designed for Cancellara. If you can put out about 500 or so watts for an hour, then you too might NEED the Super9.

I wish I had more feedback on the wheel, but I got one to test just before I crashed in Mar, and I haven’t gotten a chance to log any miles on it yet.

I’d go with the 900. Even the Super9 could be a tightish fit in a P3. It’d be fine, but there’s a possibility of rub from frame flex.
