Is the zipp 30 basically a 101 rim with a low quality hub and not as nice of a finish? If not, I have no clue how they intend to sell a wheel like that…it does not have the legendary zipp hubs, i think it is almost 1700 grams, and it is almost $900. The only thing separating it from any $250 stock wheel is a 21.5 mm wide break track, but is that all you get for $900? You can find a set of zipp 101 on sale for that price, so why anyone would go with the 30 is unexplained to me. Also, the 60s just seem like pre firecrest 404s? For $1600, you can get a full carbon top of the line reynolds wheelset for that price, and if you have any type of deal with a shop, you could probably get a new set of 404s for not much more. Thoughts?
It says Zipp on the rim. Bumps up the resale value. But honestly, it is a very very very bad bang for your buck. And does zipp need to go downmarket? Isn’t that what HED used to be? The 101 is even a dicey proposition but at least you have top notch hubs and a unique and aerodynamic alloy rim shape. There is nothing redeeming about paying $900 bucks for a non aero 1700 grams wheels with bleh hubs.
