Has anyone tried this stuff?
Good, bad…any thoughts?
They had a booth at the Santa Barbara Tri the last two years. I believe the Costco by my house sells it (orange maybe?) for $20 a 24 pack. It tastes pretty good but as a training tool I don’t know how it compares to Cytomax, Gatorade, Accelerade, etc.
As far as using stuff like this for training tools…I am all for it…maybe not too fuel an entire workout…but when the going gets tuff at the end of a long hard ride or run I like using Red Bull or Mountain Dew …or the last half of the IM Marathon its great for the special needs bag
.
I recently got a pack of 24 and tried one. It seems to have a good mix of vitamins, minerals and caffeine. Bottles are nice - small and easy to carry. However, it has only 8 g of carbohydrate (30 calories) and tastes BAD. Well, not as bad as similar drink Power Blast (0 calories). I understand that this drink is targeting overweight audience, but is it hard to make a similar drink with a decent amount of carbohydrate (around 100 calories) for ‘normal’ athletes? I was running 18 miles today on one shot of Power Blast (just finishing some leftovers) and felt running out of energy after 15 miles. Sure, I could carry a packet of GU, salt caps, but why can’t I just carry a bottle of energy drink that can give me a reasonable blend? BTW, Red Bull comes in normal (with sugar) and sugar free versions.
About 18 months ago they were giving out full-bottle samples at Costco. Taste-wise it wasn’t bad for the low-cal varieties I’ve tried. But I found myself feeling sick after getting about half-way through the bottle (over a period of about 40 minutes).
I like it, but I was using it to fuel a CostCo trip, it went well with the Kielbasa sausage I ate later in the store!
1 tube into 20oz bottle plus a gel and mix well.
Good for a perk up ride or run.

I use it to stay awake but have never tried it in training because it really wrecks my stomach. I like the taste of it and it mixes easy.
Never had it but I did see an empty container in the recycle bin at the office and grabbed it, thinking it would be a good way to carry salt tabs during a race.
CEO was a young fit guy in his 40s and died recently. Haven’t heard why but rumor was a heart attack… (too much Zipfizz?) Despite that I still drink it every morning on my way to the gym. I don’t like coffee so it’s a requisite wake up call for me. I’ve been having heart palpitations in the pool recently but I don’t think it’s related cuz I’ve been drinking this stuff for at least a year. Costco sells the variety pack, but my wife and I like the grape flavor so we just order it online.
love this stuff, for someone with high sodium intake this is an alternative to salt tabs for electrolytes as it has high potassium content, sodium bicarbonate, and a kick of caffeine
