HAMBURG, Germany (AP) – Erik Zabel, whose 192 wins is the most among active riders, said Sunday he was leaving T-Mobile after 13 years with the German cycling team.
The 35-year-old German sprinter, who has won 12 Tour de France stages, will join an undisclosed team that has guaranteed him a place at cycling’s premier event under a three-year contract.
Zabel was left off T-Mobile’s Tour de France squad this year.
“I need some new perspectives sportswise. By September 1, I will say which team I will join,” Zabel said.
