I can’t remember where I heard it but apparently 666 as the number of the beast in Bible might be wrong, so how are we ever going to accurately determine who the beast is?
Then there’s the data folks willingly provide directly to companies. No need for the dark web.
E.g with the NYT - I subscribe so they know my actual address, and name. I read their stuff online so they have my IP. They see referral URL’s so can get a sense of other interests. Etc.
All of that is me giving them very precise details vs the general zip code demographics that they’ve compiled as a general profile. I don’t see value of providing exact ages of people in my household.
Famous example - folks’ willingly gave their age to Starbucks. That free drink on your bday perk? Very slick way of Starbucks to get age info directly.
I never took astronomy in college, but I did learn (and later teach) astrodynamics. The Earth wobble is one of the things that gets covered in astrodynamics because we use the “fixed stars” as a reference frame. To nail down that reference frame the vector made by the Sun and Earth on the vernal equinox is used. Similar to defining the Prime Meridian for Earth navigation. We call that the First Point of Aries. As noted in the article, it hasn’t actually pointed to Aries for 2,000 years.
This of course was all explained to the public back in 1969 by the educational group The 5th Dimension.
They’re actually named if you select a date that fits in. The smaller one is Scorpio and the larger one is Ophiuchus. It’s the 13th sign/constellation.
As someone who identifies as Scorpio, I’m deeply offended that it’s been diminished so severely in that chart
Maybe it’s because Scorpios have a “reputation?”
Personality Traits
Strengths: Resourceful, powerful, brave, passionate, a true friend Weaknesses: Distrusting, jealous, manipulative, violent Scorpio likes: Truth, facts, being right, talents, teasing, passion Scorpio dislikes: Dishonesty, revealing secrets, superficiality, small talk
Scorpios are passionate and assertive people with determination and focus you rarely see in other zodiac signs. They will turn to in-depth research to reach the truth behind anything they find important. Great leaders and guides, Scorpios are resourceful, dedicated and fearless when there is challenge to be overcome. They will hold on to other people’s secrets, even when they aren’t very fond of them to begin with and do anything they can for those they tie themselves to.
Scorpio is the sign of sexuality and ultimate physically-emotional bonding with other people.
However, I can find solace knowing that it is so prominent in Moana
I will still identify with Leo, not Cancer, but it seems I may be a mix of the two.
[LEO Strengths: Leos are known for their courage, optimism, and ability to inspire others. They are often seen as natural leaders who can motivate and uplift those around them. ]
[LEO Weaknesses: On the flip side, their need for attention can sometimes come off as arrogance, and their strong personalities may overshadow others in social situations. ]
In summary, Leos are vibrant, passionate individuals who embody confidence and creativity. Their natural leadership qualities and loyalty make them cherished friends and partners, while their dramatic flair adds excitement to their interactions.
Interesting. I will need to fwd to one of the MILs to see what she makes of it (though she’s probably been on top of it for years).
I love her, but she’s an odd combo of beliefs.
She was trained as an accountant, was a CPA for a while, then co-founded and ran a small business for 30 years - definitely grounded and capable of logical, evidence-based thought.
And also has been a certified astrologer for 20+ years, doing readings for money on the side, sometimes delaying important life decisions/actions until the heavens’ alignment is more auspicious, and so on.
Sounds like your MIL can operate on two planes - a spiritual one, and a more mundane(?) day-day life. Just that her spiritual on is astrology vs. an organized religion. And there are plenty of CPAs that are devoutly religious.
Something I’ve wondered about is the Chinese calendar/zodiac signs. Those align particular years with a specific animal. And different animals have different traits and characteristics. Which would mean everyone that’s born in a particular year or of the same age… are all the same. Shirley that’s not true.
That’s an interesting way of describing it. I will think about that.
Astrology is certainly a lens through which she views the world and which sometimes affects the actions she chooses to take, and in that sense I can see parallels to organized religion.
I’m not sure that her belief in astrology is rooted in any deeper belief in a creative force, a structure that underpins a sense of right & wrong, morality, what happens after death, or other things that organized religion often deals with.
