What are you thinking of their high end rubber?
Generally, they don’t roll particularly fast. Great MTB tires, but so far they don’t seem to have it figured out for road tires. Good training tires, but there are a LOT of good training tire…
I had a set of the courchavels, they seemed nice at first. I used them for a 65 mile road race and after the race I was really, really surprised how many little chunks of rubber were missing and they seemed to be fairly sliced up as well, just from one race. I got rid of them. Now for training, I really like the re-fuses, not fast but pretty durable IMO. I hate their MTB tires.
What can you say about a brand that names one of their models the “Refuse”
.
To be fair, it’s the Re-Fuse.
I’ve used Detonators and Hors Categories. Both have held up much better than Continental tires both on the road and on the trainer. My current set of Detonators have about 3k on them.
no.
Refuse tires are heavy as hell bombproof trainers.
I second Rappstar, great mountain bike tires, mediocre road tires. The Re-fuse is pretty tough, but has a tendency for the tread to delaminate from the casing.
Kevin
I have about 1,000m in a set of their Detonators. They are OK, I guess. Terrible name for a tire, though.

Do you mean sort of like how GM’s concept car for the EV-1 models was originally called the “Impact”? …or when Chevy sold cars in Latin America badged “Nova”? Go look up what “No va” means in Spanish, if you don’t already know…
Exactly. Funny, my dad had a Nova when I was a child growing up in Venezuela. Ugliest shade of yellow known to man.

I’ll second that. Gashes all over, but no flats and stayed together for well over a thousand miles. Would buy them again in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact the only reason I don’t have them any more is because I donated them to a man who happened to be riding along one day as I was stranded on the side of the road (flat tire and my air chuck puked the seals). His tires had seen better days. So as a token of my appreciation I donated them to him. Saved me a long walk home and kept me from having to call my wife early in the morning to wake her and the little ones just to come pick me up.
As a matter of fact, just happened one week from yesterday.
Back on subject…yes, MAXXIS tires are bomb proof.
