I want to experiment with running hats for more sun protection and see how I like it. What’s your favorite running hat?
Check out Boco Gear. Boulder Colorado company. Pictures don’t do them justice and I hate wearing hats but my technical trucker hat is almost weightless and super comfortable. Really happy with mine and I’m in Arizona so with 110 degrees and oppressive sun it’s mandatory.
I was hoping someone would talk about the Boco hat. Does it really offer that much sun protection with the mesh? Which hat do you have?

I have a lot of hair so I like the mesh on technical trucker. Haven’t had issues with sunburn scalp. Bill shades eyes and seems to channel swear away from brow (drips off from bill when I’m caked in sweat). Plus I’ve had attractive women at the pool compliment me on it so that a plus 
Do you feel like it makes your head feel hotter than with a visor?
I have been using the Patagonia Duckbill Cap designed for ultra-running for last two years and love it.

Can’t compare to mesh simply because I’ve never worn one, but I can tell you I’ve never once felt hot on my head while wearing it.
Do you feel like it makes your head feel hotter than with a visor?
I’m not a visor kind of guy but Boco also has them. I don’t even feel the technical trucker though it’s nearly weightless. Only problem I could see is if you have a super big head but that would be true for all hats. Hat is also holding up well after a bunch of runs where I’ve had it just soaked.
I also like supporting the company that is Tri-friendly and I like Boulder roots.
I’ve tried on a boco hat at an LBS. Was excited and would like to have a trucker. Hated the hat though. It fit very weirdly. Not sure which model it was. Will get on the search for the technical trucker

Fit and comfort obviously trump everything. Those other posts hats however I couldn’t wear - no disrespect if that’s their style because everyone’s entitled to their own opinion but those things are hideous to me and I’m still a little too vain to rock a sheik hat on the trail.
I’m currently using this visor. I’ve got about 350 sweaty miles so far and it’s still holding up great in the swampy summer humidity of SC Lowcountry. Although, I’m finishing most of my runs shortly after sunrise. I’d recommend this and will probably get another when this one wears out.

If you are thin in the hair area you will get burned through the mesh of a trucker style hat.
Headsweats make some very nice lightweight hats
BOCO hats are super nice but do fit shallow. If you have a larger head talk with Kay at BOCO and tell her you need a Jodi/Boots fit. She will know what you mean.
Patagonia makes the best fitting trucker hat but its not technical at all. Smartwool also has an amazing one that is super comfortable

This is what I run with in the summer … Laredo Texas heat. Don’t love the look but do love the functionality of the skirt blocking the sun on my neck.
IM visor with the terry cloth backing - wont ever go back to anything else.
