I am looking at adding a pair of bike shorts to my christmas list and am wondering what bike/tri short do you find most comfortable for long (60+) training rides on a tri bike.
For shorter rides, I have had really good experience Sugoi’s trishort that contain their unisex triflo pad. (All of our tri team gear is Sugoi). I have a pair of Sugoi bib shorts w/ the Unisex FormulaFX pad, but they are not that great for riding aero. http://sugoi.com/...ois/Women’s+TriFlo (image didn’t show for the unisex, but the pad is the same design as this) http://sugoi.com/chamois/Formula+FX
I am curious what shorts people like the best while riding aero. I’ve read some of the old threads about the DeSoto 400mi Shorts and was wondering what people think of them for long training rides specifically in aero. http://www.desotosport.com/...tials&ProdID=BS8
Likewise, I’d like to get a pair of shorts with pockets to race in. What do people think about the DeSoto Forza Trishort w/ pockets? Would you wear them for an IM distance? http://www.desotosport.com/...orza&ProdID=FTF8
I’m not loyal to any brand…I’d like to keep the price around $80-120. All suggestions welcome.
Not sure that it matters, but I ride the PD TriStryke saddle.
I ride bothe the Desoto 400 miler and the Power Tri. Love the pockets which are handy for everthing from gels to a cell phone. It sounds like I have much different taste than you but for anythng aero I ride a road Arione and the Desoto Tri which has very little padding. The 400 miler is also a very minimal pad so if you like that sort of thing they should work out for you. For me any more padding than that and Big Jim stops talking to me
I don’t ride that long very often, but more and more, I’m finding standard tri shorts (DeSoto and Zoot) to be more comfy for aero riding than any bike shorts I have (Mostly Performance Century).
I’m mainly doing long rides in tri shorts these days, but on occasion, if I have a rogue saddle sore or something, I wear the Performance Century Gel bike shorts. Cheap and very comfortable, but I don’t mind the “diaper” feel you get with those. Some people hate that. They’re really well-padded and the chamois is pretty darn comfortable.
I’m a big fan of Oomph! shorts. I no longer wear any other shorts, even when not riding my tri bike, regardless of distance ( rides up to 125 miles ). Anything with their ‘distance’ pad works great. The difference in the shorts is the addition of compression panels on the higher end shorts.
