What’s everyone’s favorite base bar? Trying to get a feel for what folks like.
I’m pretty fond of my Easton Attack TT’s, but the basebar is integrated. Does that count?
Brad
Vision aluminum. It’s almost as light as carbon, nice wing profile, durable, and cheap.
If cost were no object: HED Vantage 8 base bar.
Note: Both in 26.2 (not the 31.8).

+1 for Vision alum, best bang/buck.
If budget weren’t a limiter, I’d covet the Ventus.
That’s what I have too. I like it but has anyone cut down the ends to make them flat? I don’t really like the upturned brake levers and instead of buying a new, and expensive, basebar I was going to cut them down. Any suggestions from anyone who has done it? Thanks. But other than that they are great for me so far.
3T Mistral is a real deal breaker!
-Incredible adjustability (you can also buy a conversion kit to have the pads on top of the bars, just like Breza or Aura).
-Quite stiff (it was used by all Garmin pro team in 2010, so it got to be stiff)
-Really low price compare to other Carbon Basebars (around 300$)
-Finally it looks really good!

for those who like flat bull horns (me), i’m a fan of the profile design svet. carbon, but good bang for the buck at 200g for $200. also does nice job with cable routing:

I agree, but it’s not sold as a stand alone basebar (even though the aerobars can be unclamped).

I shouldn’t have laughed at this but I did.
I like my Vision aluminum. Bought the base bar, aerobars, Vision levers and DA shifters for $150 on eBay several years ago. Thought about cutting the upturns but since I’m in med school that might have to wait until I get some break time. zoom zoom

I have the HED Vantage 8 base bar and really like it.
I have the 2012 Zipp VukaBull with the 40mm drop and love it! Extremely light and sturdy. The 40mm drop is nice for climbing and staying relatively aero while off the extensions.

Cutting them down isn’t too difficult. I had to sand the powdercoat down to get the brake levers on and I drilled the brake cable holes larger to improve the fit. The cable “kinks” a little bit more because it has to bend more radically to fit with the trimmed bar, but it isn’t a big deal. A small strip of skateboard deck-tape helps keep the hands from slippping. All-in-all this is probably the best aero bang for the buck, but I do like the new Hed’s.
Slow man likes the 3Tp Brezza nano"
"i wrote at bike dealer camp (at least i think i did) about 3t’s new brezza nano pursuit bar built in a 30cm width. this cuts off 10cm of drag that sits out to the side of the rider, just drag, no use to the rider whatsoever except on a very technical course.
i happen to know where the first and only 10 bars reside, and they’re being held out specifically for pros who’ll race kona. we’ll see if i get a reach out from any of them. personally, i’d just sell them if i were 3t. but they’d rather stick them on some pro bikes.
30cm is the new 40cm in triathlon. for a course like kona, you don’t need all that width. for a course like nice, maybe you do. but it beats the heck out of the 100k bars we used to try to ride.
in fact, i’m sure i wrote about these right on this forum, and tom anhalt and i had a discussion about bar width.

Tangent question but does anyone have comments on the Zipp Vuka? Marketing material sounds great (mimics feel of brake hoods) but wondering if A) that’s true and B) they’re worth the money.
I’ll second that. My new vuka bull will be here tomorrow.
