Oops too much bread and wine, pants are tight.
Curious what people’s go to to drop 5 pounds is.

Not eat for a day
.
Since I have been WFH or working from an empty office with no one and no snacks around since March 16th I have dropped just shy of 10 pounds. Amazing what not eating chips and candy all day will do.
Cut out all processed foods.
Drink a large glass of water before meals.
Exercise a bit more, preferably first thing in the morning. Nothing crazy, a run once a week or so will help.
Cut out alcohol and processed foods. Cut out bread and eat breakfast before having any coffee. Carrots, cucumber and nuts as snacks.

Just spit balling numbers here, but:
I believe to lose a pound of fat you need a caloric reduction of something like 3500. So, to lose five pounds you need a 17,500 caloric deficit. Unless you’re eating like a bear out of hibernation, and you’re not counting water weight lost, one day isn’t going to do much.
Curious: what’s with the breakfast before coffee thing?

On the right track.
Cut 500cal per day and add in 500 cal of exercise a day. Thats the “smart” way to cut 2lbs a week. But for the OP, to be fast? Just cut carbs for a day and go for a few walks in a hoodie.
If you want the loss to last, do the first part.

I’m in no particular hurry. My capris are just a little too tight. I don’t want to snowball the 5 pounds to 15.
Corn chips are a big snacking problem for me. I’ve been eating carrots instead.
I love cheese and have been eating a lot…

If those are your snacking problems stop buying them. Seriously, if they aren’t in the house you can’t eat them easily. I have the same issue with ice cream. If it is in the house I will eat it after dinner even if I’m not hungry. Part craving, part habit all detrimental to my waistline.
I find that coffee suppresses the appetite and while not eating might sound good as a weight loss technique, I find if I don’t have a decent breakfast I get hungry later and then graze. Lately I’ve been having oatmeal with ground up flaxseed

Gotcha. Makes sense.
I have breakfast around 3 hours after waking and exercising. Usually it’s a big omelette with a side of braised kale and spinach. Sometimes I go the oatmeal route but I find that makes me hungry by 10. Something about eggs and veggies in the morning just sit really well with me.
I’m planning on trying the Bjarne Riis method after hearing it in Tyler Hamilton’s book.
Do a long ride, come home and drink a bunch of water and down a few sleeping pills, go to sleep so you don’t eat until breakfast the next morning. Sounds healthy to me.
Do a 3 day water only fast. Great for overall health,

Agree a 24 hr fast should get you there, and its pretty easy.

OTOH, a person doesn’t lose just fat, they typically lose a combination of muscle and fat, and muscle is something like 700kcal per pound.
Still not going to get you to lose 5 pounds of tissue in a day but 17,500kcal is likely an overestimation of the calorie deficit you’d need to lose 5lbs.

I don’t believe the question was how to lose 5lbs of fat. Simply how to lose 5 lbs. If you don’t eat for a day, you might not get to 5 lbs but easily a couple. mostly just shit in the system.
Now if he is asking how to lose 5lbs and keep it off.
REALLY EASY…
EAT LESS, MOVE MORE.
Eat normal for 6 days and then skip a day. Personally I do the eat from 3 pm to 9pm only. Down 35lbs over a year, so I guess that works. Harder to do locked in at home, but I have gotten use to not eating much, so even when home, i dont eat much. Pretty much 1 small meal a day,

For me 5 lbs takes effort. I have to weigh my food, log it and track calories in/out. Numbers keep me honest and I get irritated enough logging everything I will just not eat it so I don’t have to bother figuring out the calories. I already don’t drink, don’t eat gluten, very little sugar or processed foods and exercise daily. If I gain I am probably eating too much at dinner and slacking off on steps (not walking the dog when school starts because I’m planning lessons and grading papers in the evening).
You don’t lose muscle in 24 hour fasts. The human body has a lot of stored fat. It takes about 48 hours of fasting just to burn the stored sugar (glycogen) before even starting to burn fat.
If humans lost muscle after 24 hours of no food, the hunters of the past would have become extinct as they tended to be in a state of feast/famine and the famine would often be days before hunting more food,

I wasn’t saying anything about a 24 hour fast. I’m just saying to lose 5lbs of tissue you likely don’t need to run a calorie deficit = to losing 5lbs of fat, because a person is pretty likely to lose muscle along with fat and muscle isn’t nearly as energy dense.
