You know you're old and out of the loop when

…you’re watching the Grammy’s tonight and you have absolutely no idea who most of these people are. I pretty well only listen to classic 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s rock nowadays.

I have to take my statement back. The Beach Boys are on stage now.

That Bruno Mars kid is one talented little fucker. Haven’t been impressed by much else, though. Same ol’, same ol’.

You don’t bother noticing Fergie’s see through dress
.

She doesn’t do a thing for me.

Actually, I did notice that. It’s just that I had no idea who she was.

You have good taste. That might be why you arent emjoying the program.

Haven’t seen the broadcast yet (West coast) but Bruno Mars is pretty good. He seems to be one of the few “artists” these days that can actually sing and his songs actually seem to have some pretty good meaning to them. (Instead of the Bling Bling, Escalade, Money, Drinking, Bitches and Ho’s that persist in popular music today). Not that I am opposed to money, bitches and/or ho’s.

As a student (listening, playing, performing, writing, etc.) of popular music, it seems to me that over the last 50 - 100 years, this art form has become less about music (sound) and more about fashion (visual). As the years go by, the elements of the music have become more simplified and formulaic; the sexual aspect of popular music has become more overt and less nuanced. More people (observers) have access to more music, but the complexity and diversity is not as broad.

My car has the following cd’s loaded: Genesis mix, Sting mix, David Gilmour mix, Dire Straits mix and PF - A Momentary Lapse of Reason.

It’s been a good 15 + years since I have latched on to any new music that really captured my attention. Every time I make the mistake of hitting ‘FM’ on my radio I’m instantly reminded how robbed the youth of today are in terms of being exposed to actual musicians.

Emphasis on “OLD AND OUT OF THE LOOP”…

I’m pretty sure many dads and Granpas said the same thing about the 60’s 70’s etc…

I stopped watching the grammys when they gave Jethro Tull the best metal band award (or whatever it was).

What about Escalades?

Something along the lines of lipstick and pigs comes to mind.

I think you’ve given yourself away as old by talking about CDs, period. j/k

Any love for that Nikki song? I thought it was awful in every possible way.

That’s a shame, there is A LOT lot of really good stuff out there.

Here’s a cookie!

Rule #1 - 99% of what’s on mainstream radio is garbage. That’s no more true today than it was in the 70’s. Remember disco?

People aren’t just going to suddenly stop making good music. But you have to actually go look for it if you want to hear it. Hitting ‘FM’ on your radio has always been a great way to expose yourself to the bottom of the barrel.

That said, there were tons of acts on the Grammys show that are good examples of very talented musicians. Foo Fighters, Adele, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys - none are my particular cup of tea but all are undeniably great musicians. I’d consider last night’s crop of perfomers to be firmly above average when compared to most years.

I thought that routine was wildly, obnoxiously offensive.

Adele was good, though.
