I am getting my P3 refinished so I needed some stickers. I figure since it is a Cervelo frame so I contacted them. Then I received an email from them saying
Like a good little boy I followed the advice from Cervelo and I contacted Hottubes with this email
“Hi
I contacted Cervelo regarding getting some frame stickers for my P3 and they say I can purchase them from you.
How much are they and how can I place a order?”
but the reply I got from Hottubes wasn’t what I had expected
“Hi,
The only way you can get new Cervelo decals is if we paint it. I know, I’m sorry, but it’s Cervelo’s rules. They said I can’t send decals to anyone, period.”
I have gotten a few other frames refinished in the past and and every time I was able to get decals from the manufacturer. Is there any reason Cervelo do not want to sell them to the general public?
I’m a little bummed about it. I was willing to pay for the decal so I preach and spread the Cervelo religion but I guess not
It makes sense that they would not do so. It helps protect the brand and prevents joe blow from slapping a cervelo sticker on a huffy. Hopefully Gerard will see this and will be able to help you out.
I was going to get my old P3 repainted and instead of using decals the painter was actually going to paint the logos on to match the factory decals. I saw photos of others he had done and they were perfect.
I’d agree with Nick, copyright issues would probably prevent third parties from distributing another companies logos. With the popularity of Cervelo, I could see someone slapping their stickers on a no-name bike and selling it off on e-bay.
That actually happens remi-regularly. A while back some guy was selling a bunch of “prototype” frames. One of his “protos” was what appeared to a Leader TT frame with a Cervelo sticker rebadged as a P1 Prototype.
