Anyone have experience with them? Or is it Concept 2 or go home?
What I surely do not want is signing up for the fitness app of the manufacturer - like NordicTrak

C2 or go home (unless you row OTW and can get your hands on a RowPerfect).
Unbreakable, good resale value, and comparable results to everyone else
Never used a Yosuda, but have used a C2 for the past 5 or so years. Excellent product. There’s a reason that most every college rowing program uses them. No matter what you choose, check out the C2 website for a wealth of info on training, technique, etc.
Just picked up a Concept II D model for $650 on FB Marketplace for a friend with only 16,000 life time meters on it. It will still be worth that several years from now. There seem to be a good number of pandemic purchases out there that were used very little if you keep your eyes open. Over the past 2 years I’ve put ~ 3 million meters on an ancient C model that has only needed an $8 bungee for maintenance. Parts are cheap and readily available.

Concept 2 or nothing at all. Went through this exercise 4 years ago.
The value of the concept 2 for me is I can also train at any gym at the same watts/paces on the same equipment.
Don’t even bother with anything else. Worth every penny. Better money spent in terms of fitness/$/time than anything you can spend in cycling (and we know how much we spend on bikes/trainers/gear).
But what is the difference in generations ?

If you’re talking models, C,D&E are all excellent. Set any of them up by drag factor and they all feel the same. The PM5 computer is the newest and most versatile head unit.
YMMV,

Yup just saw a used D/E with 69000 meters and PM 5 computer for $700

That’s a good deal and I’d jump on it. I put more distance than that on every week. It won’t depreciate much from that level over the next few years.
But what is the difference in generations ?
info here:
Indoor Rower - Support and Service | Concept2
the current model -“the rowerg” - is just a renamed Model D - “The Model D was renamed “RowErg” effective April 2021”
I think the difference between the Model D and E, is that the E was higher - 20" for the E, and 14" for the D.
there’s also this info for HRM compatibility -

Thank you all. Used one was snagged but new one not much more expensive.
Tall legs or standard?
C2 all the way - which it sounds like you got, so good. In all the gyms and friends that have them, I’ve never seen a tall legged one, only the standard, so… ?
The only issue I’ve had is, even with the newest PM5 firmware release, the PM5 seems to inconsistently break connection with my Garmin HRM and that’s a bit annoying - certainly not an “end of the world” problem, but annoying none-the-less. If they could make that connection more robust there would literally be nothing to complain about… oh, maybe the stick-on seat pad glue could be better, but I’m stretching.
In my opinion the tall ones are for folks with significant mobility problems. I’m an achy almost 70 year old and still find the standard low model easy peasy to get on and off of. If you take the shipping and tax on a new one into account it may shift the equation slightly.
