Yoga & Pilates video recommendation

Can anyone recommend some good yoga/pilates/core videos. I try to get to the classes at my gym, but due to scheduling that has become impossible.

Thanks

I have the Rodney Yee Power Yoga workout DVD. Bought it last winter - It’s pretty good. I usually do just the first half, which is the sun salutations and some standard poses (warrior, etc.). You might find the pace to be a bit fast, but I got used to it. You should also have at least a pretty good knowledge of Yoga basics for this.

After a half hour or so it gets into some more challenging stuff which I’ve yet to really delve into. But I guess the nice thing is that when I am ready to push myself, I wont have to go out and get a new video.

I’ve found that books work better than videos because I like to control the timing and the selection of the exercises. So you may want to reconsider wanting videos. The books I use are by Rodney Yee (8 Weeks Toward Balance) and David Swenson (Ashtanga Yoga) for yoga, Brooke Siler (Pilates Body) for Pilates, and Mark Something for Core (it’s called Core Performance).

Eric Schmitz’s TriathlonCore video has some great ideas - sort of a mix of yoga, pilates, etc., specific to the needs of triathletes.

Hilary Burnett’s Pilates Intermediate.

(I tried the Advanced one, too, but it’s insanely difficult and too fast-paced.)

Also: I have found that being a member of Netflix.com has been really worth it for the fitness videos alone. Their selection is actually quite good, and you can try out a whole variety of dvds until you find the ones you really like. The user reviews of the dvds are really helpful, too.

i use that windsor pilates dvd !

Iron Yoga by Anthony Carillo - great guy, super triathlete (multiple Hawaii Ironmans) and the stuff is geared specifically for triathletes. There is a book + video put out by Rodale Press - check it out. I met Anthony at Doug Stern’s Curacao Triathlon Camp and where he led a session of iron yoga on the beach at the end of the training day - it was great stuff.

Pilates for Athletes, by phi Pilates. It is a DVD of 40 min mat workout that is great. I am not sure if it is up on their website yet, but if you call 877-716-4879, or contact them from their website (www.phipilates.com) they should be able to hook you up. Disclaimer- I am one of the participants in the video (the guy in the back doing all the modified versions of the exercises because I can’t do the harder versions:)
