I did a time trial yesterday and my time was off about 2 minutes from last year. I’ve been trying to come up with good reasons besides not training hard enough why I was slower. I did a yoga class the day before the race. Anyone have any negative side effects from doing yoga the day before a race?
It depends on if you normally do yoga and if you do did you push your session more than normal. Yoga can cause soreness since it is a strength session. I personally would not do a long session the day before a race( maybe 20 minutes max) and I have been doing yoga for 7 yrs w/ the guidance of my wife, who is a Certifed RYT.

I did yoga 3 days ago and then did a personal TT 2 days ago around the airport service drive and was quite a bit slower. I was suprised how lethargic it made me but I only do yoga once a week.
I practice Bikram Yoga every other day and have not noticed a drop in times at all. Class is one hour and half. Maybe it was something else.

I’d be cautious about doing a heated yoga class the day before an event – or at least anything not considered to be a “gentle” class. These sessions typically are 75-90 minutes in duration and would have the tendency to leave the participant depleted, dehydrated, etc for all bit the most hard-core practitioners. Its not just about flexibility. These classes typically involve numerous strength moves… I wouldn’t want to go into an event recovering from the prev. day’s workout.
I’ve done a class the day after and that even can be too soon – leave that decision up to the individual church-goer’s
