YMCA aquatic center in Orlando

I found this place on Swimmers Guide as I’ll be in Orlando for work most of the next month and it looks like an impressive pool. Has anyone ever been there that could validate how it is?

I was there about 2-3 years ago. Good facility to swim but nothing fancy. They may have updated it since then but I don’t know. It will serve its purpose. 50 meter lanes was nice.

I was in (i.e. stuck) in Orlando for 15 days for work a few months ago. I swam at the Downtown YMCA. They have two, 25 SCY pools (one indoor, one outdoor). The staff was very friendly and I paid a reasonable fee to be a guest member for two weeks. I think it was $40 or thereabout. Just another option if you are going to be downtown.

NTC in Clermont is a much nicer pool - great Masters Program with Sara McClarty.

i swim there mon wed fri 6am masters its a great program i drive 1hr door to door a b and c work outs sara rocks .i swam masters at the ymca aquatics for years nothing comes close to saras wk outs
.

Sara’s workouts at the NTC should make you faster, If they don’t but your swimming at the NTC you may at least feel faster if you are swimming next to Tom Ziebart!
Be careful as Clermont is adictive and with property prices the way they are you may just move here.

Timmy - I’ve always been in the fast lane at the NTC - trouble was - no one else was in the pool so it was the ONLY lane!

There is now. 8-10 A swimmers every practice.

I was in Orlando back in October for 10 days for work. While I was there I looked at pools as well. I found this gem:

Dover Shores Pool

1400 Gaston Foster Road, Orlando, FL 32812-1945 (407) 381-2531 ý

It’s an outdoor pool, 7-8 lanes, all with lane lines, heated and has backstroke flags. The entire time I was there I saw maybe 2 people. Locker room to change and the life guard staff is harmless. I think I paid them like $10 for the whole week or something. Take a look. Unless you want to swim with people then this is not an option.

I suggest you call the Orlando YMCA pool before planning on using it.
It is championship time in the swimming world and that facility is used a lot.

Good point, will do.

I appreciate the recommendations from others about their masters swims, but I’ll have my own workouts to do so I’m really just looking for a solid pool with an open lane.

I called and they said there shouldn’t be any problems with lanes being taken up by swim teams. He said it might be a little crowded in the lap swim lanes from time to time, but nothing crazy.

just my 2 cents, but I enjoy the aquatic center. It’s a decent pool and its fun to look at the names on their record board. In my mind it is as much fun to swim there as it is at IUPUI, Federal Way, and a few others around the country. The aquatic center in Orlando is not new anymore and it’s not overly fancy, but it does have some swimming history.
