The Yasso 800’s have some merit. I think they are a better fit, if you are in a certain range of time/marathong fitness. For me, historically a 2:35 - 2:40 marathong runner it makes some sense. Run an 800m repeat in 2:35-2:40 then recover for the same time and then repeat. It’s a great no-brainer workout to do.
I don’t think it is the BEST training for 1/2 marathons or marathons( Longer tempo runs or broken tempo runs with minimal recovery are), but they do get you working hard and running faster. This last point is key because many rec-runners don’t have very much range in their training pace or intensity and ANY faster paced running is going to be helpful.
