Xtrerra wetsuit Sizing / Vortex v Vector Pro

I am 6’ and 170lbs so I am right on the line between a medium and medium large - anyone else around this size have an xterra suit and any insight on which way to go? Also, I know it was discussed in a thread a couple years ago but with respect to the latest generation of xterra suits I’d be very interested in hearing from anyone who has swam in both the vector pro and vortex and can talk about the main differences (flexibility, durability, etc) in the current models.

I am not your size, but was on the boarder. I went and sized down as was suggested for a speedy suit. Size up for a more relaxed fit. It is snug but loosens up when wet.

I race at 175-177. I have a MLA and it fits well. If you think you will never dip below 170 I’d say go MLA, but if you see yourself going down in weight go w/ the Medium.

I demo-ed both, which is 100% absolutely what you should do. You can get a full refund after trying them. I picked the vector pro because I could feel the added weight in the shoulders/arms when wearing the vortex – so for long races, I believed that my arms would get tired in the vortex.

I would suggest getting 4:
MLA vector, MLA vortex
M vector, M vortex

Charge your CC, get them, try them, pick the one you like, send the rest back, get refunded quickly, all within your billing statement.

Also, keep an eye out for codes, easy to find codes for ~50% off.

The medium fits me well at a bulky 5’7, 150lb. I’d imagine the M would be a stretch for someone 6’0.

6’ and 170-180 and the Medium Vector Pro fits great, even when I’m a fatty. Snug, but nonrestrictive. I needed a MLong which was discontinued.

Sorry to hack your thread but i’m in trouble too… I’m at 6 ft (1/2)inch, 166lbs… borderline small-tall or medium-tall…

Is it best to size up or size down?

Quoting myself. Take advantage of their generous refund options. Get everything you could possibly try on, swim in them, and send back what you don’t want.

For your size and weight, I would suggest getting a Medium-Large and go for the Vector Pro.

I am 5’9" and 165-170 and I fit quite well on a Medium. Cannot imagine you being on my wetsuit and not feeling restricted. Sizing down is acceptable sometimes but Xterra wetsuits are know to tear up when you tug too much so putting on a rather tight Xterra runs the risk of ripping it and they (the company) will NOT replace a torn wetsuit.

.

I’m 6’1" 165lbs and tried the vector in both the small-tall and medium-tall. medium-tall was very comfortable to put on, but was a bit too loose, especially at the base of the zipper. The small-tall is tight to get on, but I don’t feel constricted at all once I get in the water.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will order the medium large and test it out. Anyone out there have additional firsthand insights on the differences in feel between the vortex and the vector pro? Also, anyone know the best current coupon code?

I noticed the vortex was thicker in the shoulders, and even in a 500y test, could feel it tiring my shoulders down. Since I race half (and soon full) I felt it was worth the price increase to get the vector pro. I’m happy with my choice.

I believe BT has a coupon code worth 50%, but when I got it I was able to get like 60%. I think there are a couple guys that post here with coupon codes in their signature - wsrobertson?

Small/Tall.

I’m your size: 6’ 160-165 lbs

I went with the Medium Vortex2 (about to replace) and it’s big on me, whereas my teammates S/L fits nicely.

my opinion is to always size up. I also do a lot of surfing and a slightly smaller suit tires your arms out so much when paddling. try the suit on and see how it feels swimming.

Go medium. I’m 5-10 & 155 & “small-tall” is almost too big …
