Xlab rear hydration for 2014 Cervelo P3

Just bought a 2014 Cervelo P3. Trying to get a rear hydration system from Xlab that can be mounted on the unique seat tube of the 2014 P3. I know the Delta Sonic is specifically designed for this bike. But, in addition to the one single water/fuel bottle, I also want to be able to carry 2 Co2 cartridges, 1 inflator, and 1 spare tubular tire behind the seat. Which rear hydration system from Xlab can fulfill such requirements? I am having hard time getting the information from Xlab web site. Their customer service has not replied to my inquiry for several days. Any pointers would be appreciated!

I don’t think they make a multi-bottle for the seat post hole. Just the Delta single. The Carbon 400i, Turbo or Super Wing should all work by mounting to your seat’s rails. I use the Super with no issues.

Sorry for the delay on our response. You should have received a response from us…I have PM’d you for more details on this.

As far as storing your repair, the best solution for you would be a dual carrier mounted to your saddle as the poster above mentioned. You can store repair underneath a Super Wing or Carbon Wing or at the back of a Turbo Wing. Probably could do a Mezzo bag and stash all your repair inside that so it is kept nice and tidy and then strap it down to your carrier.

ndrfnnut , Thank you for your suggestion. Apprecitaed.

Candice,

Thank you for your quick reply. I have also replied to your PM. I will consider the Xlab solutions you and ndrfnnut suggested. But I still have one question. My saddle is the new Adamo Attack. Can these saddle-mounting systems be easily mounted on the Attck?

The reason I ask is because a few months ago I bought a Delta 225 and had a tough time mounting it on the Attack. I eventually did, but its position and angle was too low and far back for my arm to reach (I am an M50 age-grouper and not very flexible.) I have read the spec. and watched youtube demo of most Xlab rear hydration systems. Most of the saddle-mounting systems are said to fit “Adamo saddles with a transition hook” (ONLY)! My Adamo Attack does not have a transition hook. So, this is an important question: Is any of the Super/Carbon/Turbo Wing designed to be (easily) mounted on the Adamo Attack?

Thank you!

I have the Delta Sonic with the X Strike Co2 holder (holds 2 cartridges) on my new P3. Then you can just tape spare tube and inflator under your seat.

Hi,

I apologize if there was some confusion on compatibility for our saddle-rail mounted systems. Our only specific ‘Adamo saddle with transition hook’ specific carrier is the Delta 225. Most other ISM Adamo saddles will be compatible with our carriers. The Attack is a recently new saddle (about a year old) and is based off a new platform for ISM and does not have ‘standard’ metal rails. In that case there is a different set of compatibility criteria for it. We are in the process of uploading a spreadsheet we have compiled that lists a lot of saddles/bike brands to help resolve compatibility issues, but we wanted to make sure we covered the majority of the triathlon saddles used on the market today.

In the meantime to your particular question, yes the Turbo Wing, Super Wing and Carbon Wing will fit on the Attack saddle. See pictures below on how it would look. Super Wing is the same shape as Carbon Wing so I didn’t include a picture of that one.

I have been wondering whether or not the X Strike CO2 holder could be used with the Delta Sonic. Did you have to use longer bolts to attach the bottle cage and X Strike to the Delta Sonic than the ones that came with the Delta Sonic?

Candice-

Do you guys plan to make a storage container for above the bottom bracket area for the P5 and NP3? I had heard rumors that you were one of the companies that had one in works.

You will need longer bolts to mount an X-Strike to the Delta Sonic. Also make sure you have at least 1" insertion of the rod into the seatpost to support the added weight. Helps support the extra load.

We have been mentioned that we are designing one. At this point in time I cannot confirm we are doing one, but we do know there is a need for storage boxes for the new Cervelo models.

Sorry I can’t be of much help

Thanks Candice. Unfortunately I have the minimum amount of rod inserts as is. In retrospect, I should have ordered the longer version the Delta Sonic.

Hi Candice,

I have a 2014 Cervello P2 with an Adamo Breakway pushed forward on the seat post. My issue is that the saddle is too far forward to mount with the 15 mm screws provided without getting in the way of the actual seatpost. Is it common to mount with longer screws or is this a no no?

Hey,

Posting publicly what we agreed was the best solution, so other people can see if they also have the problem.

Delta 225 is for Adamo saddles with a transition hook. For the Breakaway model you would normally use the Delta 200. However, the best single rear carrier for a 2014 Cervelo P2 is actually the Delta Sonic. The Delta Sonic is mounted into the seatpost found on the new P2 units. If your saddle is mounted forward the Delta Sonic will work. If your saddle is more towards the rear of the seat post, you may consider the Delta Sonic XL which has a longer rod. Note: when using the Delta Sonic, make sure you have a minimum 1" of rod inserted into the seat post.

Quick Question on the x-strike. I received one alongside a few xlab products. Getting set up is getting me excited to race.

One question of the x-strike. Are all 4 whole supposed to be threaded? It seems only the two sticking out are!

any thoughts?

I have an XStrike, all 4 are threaded.

Hey - the thread goes all the way so all 4 entries for the CO2s should be threaded. Can you shoot me a picture of it, either here or via email.

Hello Xlabs;

I too purchased the 2014 Cervelo P3 and it has the ISM ProLogue Saddle.

I am seeking the lightest setup.

Candice can you please recap the recommendation for the rear hydration. Two bottle options. I am also seeking recommendation for front hydration. Seeing that the rears are standard bottles; I am considering staying with a standard bottle setup on the aerobars however open to suggestions.

Follow On Questions;

  1. Bottle cage recommendations (I hear that some have issue with bottles popping out)
  2. Co2 mount recommendation

Thank you,

Two pictures of my NP3 with Dash Tri.7 saddle using the Delta Sonic, X-Strike, & Gorilla XT cage.

Hi tnor10,

For 2 bottle options, your lightest setup would be either the Turbo Wing or the Carbon Wing. Main differences between the two: Turbo is alluminum, Carbon is carbon fiber. Carbon Wing has integrated storage compartment whereas Turbo you would have to mount a bag at the back to carry repair.

We have 2 setups for aerobar hydration. Your standard with a mount & cage - you would need to buy the individual components, the Torpedo Mini Mount (Carbon for lightest setup, but also avbl in Alloy) and the Torpedo Cage. The other setup would be a Torpedo System 100/400 using our refillable bottle. Very easy to use with either an open slotted slid or a closed lid that you would open/close when refilling. Available in a full carbon system or as a nylon/alloy system.

Bottle cages: Highly recommend the Gorilla Cages which features a 7lb grip force on bottles or the Gorilla XT cages which feature a 14lb grip force. We don’t recommend the Polar or Cambelbak bottles that have no deep bottle groove as there is nothing for the cage to grip onto. People have had no issues with using these bottles, but we just want to warn people that there could be an issue. Best thing to prevent launching bottles is to have your carrier mounted parallel to the ground and the cages as vertical/upright as possible.

CO2 mount: Depending on which carrier you go with will depend on the mounts. For Turbo we recommend a Sonic Nut holder (carries 2 CO2 & 1 inflator). For Carbon we recommend either the X-Nut (similar concept to the Sonic Nut) or the X-Strike (carries up to 4 CO2 - will not support an inflator).
