Xlab states the following when describing their Carbon Wing:
One of the key features invented by Xlab is the dual mounting holes for the saddle rail clamps. One position sets the bottle cages close to vertical and the other inclines the cages for rider preference. Because of it’s past success, we have kept the same feature in the Xlab Carbon Wing for customizing the installation.
Is one position better than the other? I have read that water bottles can shoot out of these behind the seat systems. Is this more of a problem with the Xlab in one of the 2 positions? Are there water bottles that work better with this set up?
Launching bottles is a cage issue, not an X-Lab issue. I’ve had one mounted for a year or so and never launched a bottle. I use lightweight aluminium cages that can be tightened with some brute force as required.
FWIW the Carbon Gorilla cage X-Lab sells holds bottles very well as does the Profile “Kage” (the inexpensive plastic one) and the X-Lab branded version. Also, the aluminum Elite Ciussi cage does a great job with rear mount bottle carriers such as X-Lab.
