X-Lab / Cervelo users - rear hydration Q

So X-lab makes a couple rear carriers specific to Cervelo seatposts - the Sonic Wing and the Carbon version of the same. As far as I can tell, these hold a bottle cage on each side of the mount, for a total of 2 cages. At the rear, dead-center of the bracket there’s a provision to carry a CO2 solution.

X-Lab also makes a Super Wing and a Carbon Wing which can hold a bottle cage on each side of the mount (same as above) OR a single cage (or other accessory) at the rear, dead-center of the bracket. These are non-Cervelo specific.

I’d like a rear carrier solution that can carry a single bottle, dead center. And, I have a P2 so I’m interested in the seatpost-specific mount (and I’m not sure I can use a saddle-rail mount based on my saddle and it’s relative position on the seatpost). Can the Cervelo-specific sonic wing / carbon wing carry a single bottle centered on the mount, or does it only have mounts on the sides? OR, Can the super wing / carbon wing be mounted to a saddle rail on a Cobb saddle that’s slammed forward on the front hole of a P2 seatpost?

appreciate any insight anyone can offer.

I don’t know the answer to your question, but I do wish someone was making single bottle holders like this for P2/P3 seatposts…http://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a162/davee503/batt.jpg
Or better, something which could hold a single bottle more horizontally (you mount it opposite to the way shown) - or better, making some kind of mount like the Minoura single mount (which could hold a single bottle more horizontally - you mount it opposite to the way shown) that can actually fit on my P3 with an Adamo on the forward position. There isn’t enough room for zip ties and the only other option is a $100+ Xlab parachute… Perfect would be a simple, single bottle horizontal mount which bolts to the seat post.

yeah, that’s what I’m after as well. I guess I focused in on x-lab because although expensive, it seems like they’re the closest as far as cervelo seatpost integration is concerned. like you, I don’t want a ton of stuff back there, just a water bottle.

I was thinking of getting the Minoura mount (they’re like $10 or less on Amazon) then Macgyvering it to get it long enough to mount a cage

X-Lab cage and zip ties, cheapest option out there

.

no dice with the cervelo seat post jutting out that much when the seat is so far forward - it least i haven’t had much luck
.

On My p2, I took the Tacx water bottle holder (link below), removed the extension arm completely and bolted it through one of the bolt holes that is in the seatpost. Then I put a single Tacx Tao bottle on it. Dead center, zero movement & very minimal in terms of weight. It takes a mild bit of whittling the plastic mount to make it fit over the back of the seatpost, but when finished it looked like a custom fit, and the bottle was snug up against the back of my seat.

this is the holder, you can add a zip tie or two in addition to the single bolt, its a super-solid setup. I don’t have any pictures of it handy…

actually i used the search function, and found someone else who did the same thing as I did here:

I just mocked up your setup with a Cobb saddle all the way forward on a P2 seatpost. The Carbon Wing and Super Wing attached to the rails will work with one bottle straight off the rear. With the Sonic Wings you can’t go directly off the rear with a single bottle at this time. Also with the the seat all the way forward, you won’t be able to fit the Delta Wing because the seat post will be in the way. You would need something that will fit around the seat post like the Super or the Carbon Wing. Please feel free to give us a call if you have any questions 760-735-3215.

I have one on my P3C made by beaker concepts that will do a single bottle behind the seat. It’ll also do 2 on the side. I can take a picture if you’d like.

I have the Beaker Concepts H.5 and absolutely love it! It’s super solid as opposed to the tacx one which is a bit bouncy if you use it stock. The new Blaze is cool too and also very solid.

The H.5 can mount a bottle on the back as well even though I have it set up for 2 side by side. I now have a tube shoved in the middle of the of the carrier too.
Here’s the H.5 mounted on a P2

Could you post a picture?

I know this post is old, but I’m looking for a single rear bottle carrier as well. I ride a 2011 P2. Is your single-bottle carrier pictured below the H.5, or H.5C (the latter I’ve heard is discontinued). I think I like the setup better than the Blaze, but would also be willing to do that if it was the only thing available. I’m a newbie at longer distances and want to carry just 2 bottles, and I’m set up front, but need help with my behind-the-seat storage. I ride an ISM Adamo that’s pushed too far forward for me to use anything that clamps to the rails, so I’m forced to use the P2 holes, but most of those options are expensive, and I’m trying to find the cheapest. Please advise.

I went with the zip tie method then put a screw through the back of the seat. Rock Solid.

Yeah, I was just hoping for a cheaper option than the XLab stuff…

That’s the cheapest solution yet. Think that would work fine with Specialized rib cage? Did you just use a screw, or is that a bolt, and did you pre-drill it?

it’s just a stainless steel screw. The back of the seat is hard plastic so I just screwed right through it. It was a little to loose from side to side before the screw.

another view. Hard to see because of the background.

I’ve spent over $600 figuring out the hydration on my P2 I’ve had all of the above and recently went with the Delta 300 single bottle and LOVE IT!! I have the XLAB TT aero on my down tube and when I race have a gorilla cage between the bars I use the new PD Aero system. Let me know if you want pics and ill take a few…
