Only really Cassandre was missing in Karlovy Vary. Lombardi crashed out and Lehair, Tertsch and Periault all finished behind Potter and Spivey.
The harder bike course made for a very different race in KV compared to the group ride in Weihai.

She beat 3 winners of the other races this year quite convincingly in Karlovy Vary (yes one of them crashed) good ole ST wants to pour cold water on what could be a proper clash of the titans for some reason (CB hasnât been âmissingâ from the last two races, just never raced them)
Top 30 might not be enough it might get even harder for LA ( rumours obviously)
Whatâs the rumours you are hearing? T25 or T20? Or just doing away with 3 all together?
I was talking about Waihei
They are relaxing it not tightening it.
29 degrees in Sydney today. Could be anything, temps jumping around a lot this time of year.
to make harder for nations to get 3 athletes to , get more smaller nations in , no definite number.
They have unfortunately never relaxed it ,always gets harder ,
They want more feds at games not more quality.
Well theyâll have to put a defined number to it so everyone knows the score, whether that stays T30, T Xx whatever. I think they probably want to make it harder just to spread out the nations represented and/or potentially more MTR spots (if you have 2 m / 2 f you get MTR regardless if you qualified one right?)
Further to the âUSA need a 3rd maleâ, worth keeping in perspective that only three nations achieved this for Paris, FRA, DEU and ESP. And in the women only: FRA, GBR, DEU and USA. With the male USA talent currently showing, it has to be a stretch target.

Yes there is two ways to qualify relay. Have 2 men and 2 women qualify individually or have a team qualify via the nominated relay races. The relay team members still need to be ranked high enough to qualify as well donât they? I remember Kolkman having to finish a sprint WC high enough to raise his ranking so that the Dutch team could go to Paris.
Yes, Murray (the ultimate race winner) helped him on the bike in WC Huatulco 2024 and Kolkman ended up in 9th position, getting into the top 140. He has made progress since!
Right but what I meant is I thought I read that if your fed had 2 m / 2 w no matter where you were ranked in the MTR ranking and/or MTR qualification process, you could still have a MTR team. Which makes sense but it sorta adds to the whole bugaboo I have with MTR and how itâs treated by itu / ioc. If they make 3 spots harder to achieve (only small number did this anyways) it may open up 1-2 more spots of federations to race, 15 federations raced MTR in Paris (canât remember if any dropped due to sickness/crash from individual race like what happened in Tokyo).
Belgium had no team on race day.
And as not the greatest friend of relays as their is just not enough depth with most nations there is about 16 nations that are not getting lapped out so I do not think we need really more relays.
There is one day every 4 years when relays really exist ⊠The rest of the cycle nobody really gives a f.xk
Their goal is in deed to get more feds involved and overall I donât have an issue with that but it should not be at the expense of the best athletes which should all have a guaranteed slot like top 20 0ly ranked athletes earn a slot for themselves not for the nation with the rest they can play politics as much as they want.
But what they really want is maybe 2 new flag spots.
For each continent As they wont really get more nations in otherwise.
So Iâm not saying they want to do it for the relay. Iâm saying if they were to max it to 2 individuals (again only what 3-4 federations this applied to in Paris), you suddenly may secondarily get 1-2 more MTRâs in the race simply by extending the eligible athletes who can make the Olympics, if they max it at 2 people. They had this exciting MTR rankings and âqualficationâ process (just like the individual setup) and then they add the caveat in the end that as long as your federation has 2 m/2 f in the individual race you can race MTR in the olympics, so the whole âqualificationâ race is nothing more than dick swinging at that point.
If they maxed it at 2, it may create reason for federations that only have 1 strong athlete to âinvestâ in their athletes to get 2 to the sport and then get 2 races out of the Olympics. Iâm actually not in favor of maxing it out to 2, I actually think the current setup is pretty good/fair.
IF this is what you think is a good idea (Iâm not sure of that or if this is just a strawman) - and youâve now edited to say thatâs not what you think!!! but anyway:
then the effect on the individual would be that great top 10 potential athletes would be excluded from the Olympics. Examples: Waugh (or Coldwell depending on fed/NOC), Eim, PĂ©riault, Kasper, Coninx (NB World Champion), Schomburg. There were 3 men and 4 women who were âthird athletesâ. And for what benefit: you postulate an extra couple of uncompetitive relay teams. Not worth the candle.
For info the lowest ranked individuals who got in on ranking (in the 26) were ranked high 50s: including two Austrians: Kaindl and Perterer (see her in Kona in 12 days). Their MTR team (earned because they thus had 2+2) was lapped.
Iâm not suggesting thatâs the right course of action. I of course havenât heard any ârumorsâ either way that they are changing the individual qualification process like they did before Rio, but Iâm also less âin the knownâ now than Iâve been in 10+ years. If they are trying to change the process, Iâm just theorizing what it would potentially do. And yes by default âtop athletesâ would get pinched out, but that has happened since the dawn of athletics and âpoliticsâ gets involved.
Periault auto qualified and was the first to auto qualify for France so she certainly wouldnât have been left off.
All it will need is a change to qualification policies. I donât agree with it but that would happen if they changed their rules.
With respect the scenario being floated was restricting nations to two athletes per sex. She may have âauto-qualifiedâ but thatâs a fftri thing on the assumption/knowledge that they have three athletes in the top 30. If two was the max quota, PĂ©riault would not have been selected (would she)?
How long before LA will World Tri publish the 2028 pathways? Is there precedent?
