Wrenches: Enduro BB30->GXP Adaptor Cups + Sram Quarq Cinco S975 GXP

I’m trying to install a Sram Quarq S975 GXP crank into a BB30 bottom bracket. I have the Enduro BB30->GXP adaptor (reducer) cups pictured below. I’m doing something wrong as the wave washer gets flattened and there’s a lot of friction without much torque.

Should I remove the Enduro-provided wave washer and/or spacer? Should the bearing shields (second photo below) be installed between the bearings and the adaptor cups, or left off?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

415brain,

(Is this a true BB30 frame or a PressFit 30? Bearings into aluminum or into plastic cups?)

I’ll typically remove the non-dirve bearing shield first. This will help maintain chain-line. If there’s still too much drag, remove the drive side bearing cover. Not enough preload? FSA, SRAM, and many other companies typically make/send out a 1mm plastic spacers with their BB30 BB’s. If your local shop is like mine, they may have a bunch of extras they’ll sell (or give) you to play with.

As much as I am a HUGE Enduro fan… I did run across a few ‘bad’ adapters (same application… BB30 to GXP). Give them a call and see if there’s away to tell the difference. I’ve installed many of their BB’s and adapters with great success.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Sherpa!

It’s a true BB30; bearings directly in to the frame (BMC TM02).

I have some of the plastic spacers to experiment with. I’ll try your suggestions.

Did you figure this out?

I am having the same issue.

I am using wheels manufacturing adapter.

If I use a washer then there is too much drag.

If I don’t use it then there is not enough pre-load for the quarq to work.

Nope, I eventually gave up on the GXP Quarq. I replaced it with a Stages power meter (Shimano DA 9000) + Praxis BB30 adapter.

The point of shims and wavy washers is to compensate for tolerances across all the possible bottom brackets & manufacturers. The BB manufacturer has to ensure it encompasses all the possiblilities.

I had this issue a few months ago. From my understanding, the issue is that there is that the surface of the spider makes poor contact with the cup on the S975 crank. I had this issue with both the wheels manufacturing adapter and the old enduro cups posted by the OP. In the end, I had to go with the KCNC adapters: http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id355.html and I now have 2 sets of useless cups.

This is what I was told from Chris at Real World Cycling/enduroforkseals.com:

Well, I think the fact that the crank set in question is a Quark may indeed be part of the issue. I’m not sure it is “essentially a S900 with a meter.” I only say this because there have been other reported issues. The problem is I don’t have access to one of these and they are not the type of thing one springs for just to check fit. On the other hand, you may have noticed that we have not sold the adapters in question for quite some time due to some fit issues that came up. While we work closely with Enduro, we are a different company and when we explained the issues do Enduro, it took them a while to acknowledge a problem. They have since made changes, but we have stuck with our own solution for BB30 to GXP: http://www.enduroforkseals.com/id355.html. It’s possible that Art’s sold you one of the older versions that had problems.

I have a similar situation, so I share just to add one more knowledge point:

I have a GPX s900 quark that I use on my Cervelo s5 using an enduro BBright adaptor. If I don’t use a thin spacer, the inner face of the crank bolts rubs on the frame…so I use the thin spacer:)
