Group,
I sent you all a message one year ago today that I had had a bad bike wreck and would miss IMLP. The wreck occurred on my 30 mile TT course I have been doing for 23 years, and I was just 2 miles from home. LP is still the only race I have been forced to miss in 25 yrs of doing triathlons. My separated shoulder is still a good bit symtomatic, and my swim is a bit slow, but I’m doing pretty good.
Interestingly I have reflected back on the the wreck and the past year. Many of you have checked on me and my progress, and I really appreciate that. I have also been much more aware and sensitive to the plights of others. I have and do pray for many of you and your families when you have difficult times, and have developed a number of PM relationships. That might not of happened if my wheels stayed down, so I look at the wreck as a partial blessing.
The wreck happening just 2 miles from home means that I drive and ride by the site at least several times a week. And dag gone if there isn’t always this nasty gremlin hanging out right at the very spot. Kinda like that devil guy at the tour, he is always there taunting me.
So, what was I to do on the anniversary of the wreck? Well, like any self respecting Slowtwitcher, I went out to do that very same ride. When heading through the home stretch that nasty gremlin is waiting for me. I looked that son of a gun right in the eye balls and ran that sucker over as fast as I could and yelled “I’m back!” I think he is now gone - for good! Oh, and I ended up with a personal PR for that ride.
See you in LP!! And, thanks to my friends who helped me along.
