The TT course in Paris defintiely favours Wout !!!

From the top ten from Sunday on the final stage of the TdF only Derek Gee to my knowlege is the same weight at Van Aert (78 kilos) and Wout Van Aert was 3:35 behind Tadej. But Remco will be fast. He burnt a lot of matches the day before the ITT and will be more fresh this weekend.

Tadej Pogacar (Slo/UAE Team Emirates) 45mins 24secs

Jonas Vingegaard (Den/Visma-Lease a Bike) +1min 03secs

Remco Evenepoel (Bel/Soudal- Quick Step) +1min 14secs

Matteo Jorgenson (USA/Visma-Lease a Bike) +2mins 08secs

Joao Almeida (Por/UAE Team Emirates) +2mins 18secs

Derek Gee (Can/Israel- Premier Tech) +2mins 31secs

Mikel Landa (Spa/Soudal-Quick Step) +2mins 41 secs

Harold Tejada (Col/Astana Qazaqstan Team) +2mins 50 secs

Santiago Buitrago (Bahrain - Victorious) +2mins 53secs

Adam Yates (GB/UAE Team Emirates) +2mins 56secs

I love Wout, but there’s 0 change he wins the Olympics TT. It’s a good route for Tarling or Ganna though.

here is an article on Tarling’s plans:

https://www.glasgowtimes.co.uk/sport/national/24477049.josh-tarling-eyes-paris-2024-time-trial-gold-mcdonalds-celebrate/

and in the article this is what he says:

“Ganna and Remco and Wout have all done much more impressive stuff than I have,” Tarling said. “Remco was flying in the Tour, Ganna won the time trial in the Giro, Wout’s coming back (from injury) but he’s still Wout, so my name flies under the radar quite nicely.”

Tarling is definitely not flying under the radar, and ganna’s flat tt was pretty good in the giro at least. Wout hasn’t done anything to show he’d be competitive in a time trial with ganna/tarling/remco in years. Remco is likely tired as well, don’t see him being in top shape either, but a podium is likely at least, so I’d be surprised if wout was even on the podium

Last time someone rode a double disc in a TT on the streets of Paris it didn’t end well.

I tried to ride a double disc on the road exactly once (they were Unidisc covers for regular wheels) but it was inspired by that ride.

I took a corner a little hot and because the handling was weird I wiped out. Oh to be a kid again!

I too had a Unidisc back in the day. I stuck to riding it on the back though😂

Wout just needs to trim that pony tail, and he’ll be fine.

For those who don’t know what you all are referring to, Fignon lost the Tour de France by 8 seconds riding 53 seconds slower than Lemond in the Versailles to Paris ITT (somewhat downhill), which stood for a few decades as the fast TdF TT of all time ourside ot the prologue (I think finally Zabriskie beat that average speed ???).

Fignon on double disc wheels and Lemond on single disc and Scott Clip on Aerobars

I think they even sawed off the back of Lemond’s Giro Helmet as the stubby tail did no exist commercially (and helmets were only fairings at the time)

Yes, though more specifically it’s thought that Fignon’s ponytail likely cost him more than the 8 seconds of difference between himself and Lemond.

I took Remco at +325

Unfortunately it doesn’t fly under the radar at the bookies. He’s -135 for the TT to win. Heavy favorite.

LFG Wout!

Can someone explain why Belgium is wearing baby blue and pastel yellow?

So no one knows.

Great performance from Wout. His legs today give me hope for the road race.

Nice Remco wins, Wout bronze. That’s a good sign for Wout for road race. I guess he needs to stay on Van der Poel and see what happens

With the wet roads a smaller rider like Remco would have benefited going into and coming out of turns. It looks like Ganna took back time on Wout and Remco between final check and finish.

And could have been good for some £££ winnings if not for a puncture. That lost him the time difference, give or take. But that’s sport.

Entertaining (though the coverage from French TV was fecken frustrating, repeatedly cutting away to show the local roofs, courtyards and parks, FFS, when there’s the pointy end of the sport happening.
