Would you race a disc in my situation?

Olympic distance race this weekend. Planned to use my new disk with a friend’s tri spoke up front. Called her to arrange to pick it up tonight and she had forgotten about promising it to me and loaned it to someone else.

She is super sorry but can’t get the wheel back in time anyway.

So… would you race a disc with a standard flat spoked front wheel or just bag the disc and go with two bladed spoke wheels (trainers).

And, no I’m not a TNO dropout, I’m just new to the training vs racing wheel set-up and looking for some sage advice from someone with more experience with aero wheels than me.

Cheers, Karma

A disk will be faster no matter what you have on the front. Ride the disk.

run the disc…i see no reason not to

Image is everything in this sport. You’ll look funny with a disk and bladed front. Who cares if you go fast, its all how you look doing it.

Ride the disk. Who cares what you look like. You will sound cool

Aerodynamically speaking the front wheel will matter more than the rear. So in the future either get another friend with a Hed-3 front and a better memory or buy your own.

But yeah, go ahead and run the disc wheel as everyone else has said. The rude rumbling sound of the disc will be worth something.

In my first years of tri, I ran the Uni-disk wheel covers in back with a 36-spoke box rim front wheel (the only one I had). But that disk cover sure fit well.

Go with the disk.

Heck Yeah! Mike Pigg DESTROYED many a bike course in the early 90’s on a Trek 5200, Profile clip-ons and 28 spoke bladed front and a J-Disc on the back. Plus, as others have pointed out, it just sounds so cool.

A disc is faster that a spoked wheel…period. If you have it, use it.

Forget the disk and put on an Elvis suit, high collar with a big black wig, paint you running and cycling shoes black and make sure you have some chest hair showing. Bring a bunch of small towels to throw to the ladies as you wipe the sweat from your brow.

If you’re not going to do that, then ride the disk
