Just purchased a Pegoretti Duende and am torn between putting on a fairly new Dura Ace group or an older Campy Record/Chorus mix. Curious which group you would go with. Thanks and Happy New Year.
Campy is the only option, don’t ruin that nice bike.
(My experience is also that my 15year old Chorus shifts better than 4 year old Ultegra)
I would put on what I wanted to put on. There is no cycling police, and if anyone questions your decision, tell them to f off. It is your bike.
Check out the deal on Sram at gvhbikes.com. I don’t think the fashion police have formed an opinion on Sram yet, so you will be safe there…
Mike
Mike have you tried the SRAM group? Thanks.
Shimano is…ahem…acceptable(?) on Bianchi or even Colnago, especially their low-end asian carbon wonders…but NEVER on a Pegoretti!
Unless, of course, you want to put it on there…
I put 105 on my GIOS a few years ago. It works great.
jaretj
NEVER!

I ride shimano, but I believe that a Peg would reject those components like a bad kidney transplant.
Italian on Italian. End of story.
Brad
SRAM Force.
Yes…I use it on my road bike. There are a few hiccups, but the shifters are versatile for varying positions.

Why then does Rabobank, riding Colnago’s, have Shimano Kit on their bikes? I believe that a few other teams that ride Italian bikes have Shimano as well.
I agree with the earlier poster - put whatever you like on it. There are no gruppo police out there.
How can you talk about a new Pegoretti without posting pics?
What year is it? What will you be using the bike for?
If you’re not worried about weight, older campy stuff rocks. Throw on some vintage Delta brakes w levers and C Record drive train. I promise you won’t regret it.

$ponsorship.
Pegoretti’s get Campy. That’s my vote. But it’s your bike.
Imagine if you had to ride a few miles with Dario. Wouldn’t you be embarrased to show up with Japanese components? To be polite he probably wouldn’t say anything to your face but privately he would be thinking “Momma Mia.”
On a related note, I have this super sweet new Fuji frame. Would it be ok to put Record on it?
I agree put whatever you want on there! If you are building it up to hang on the wall (nothing wrong with that), then yeah, needs vintage Campy stuff. I ride such a mix (Shimano STI, FSA cranks, SRAM cassette/chain, Zero G brakes, etc.) it is funny. I use what works best (IMHO) and go with it.
I’m assuming you do care though since you asked, so I’d put the SRAM stuff just to further confuse the issue
Yeah, I would, but somewhat begrudgingly. I like Campagnolo much better.
I am another vote for put what the hell you like on it. I’ve got the same frame and put ultegra on it, as it was what I could afford at the time. The bike has never complained and has been up and down Galibier, around the Nove Colli Gran Fondo and finished the Lanzarote IM. Who cares what Dario thinks about it, just get something on it and ride it.
It’s not a question of mixing Italian frames and Japanese components. Should be Italian components on all bikes. I’m sold on their shifters. Have Shimano bar ends on the TT bike but all others (2 road, 1 cross, and 1 vintage with Super Record) are Campy.
