Hi guys,
Does anyone know of the best ever time done by an over 50 age grouper for an Ironman distance race, the best that I have heard of not validated though, just reported in a mag is 8:52.
The reason I ask is I am targeting to beat this time this year, fingers crosses may even do a eight thirty something!!
to answer your question, I believe Helge Babel went 8:55 at Roth a few years ago, and that was considered the record.
As to your claimed goal of 8:30s at over age 50, I call BS. If you cannot show low 4s for a few 70.3s, you are just trolling. Of course if your real name is Mark Allen or Dave Scott, I take that back with apologies.
My first thought was a re-badged ‘trihard4me’…or new account.
Kevin? Is that you?
That was funny
.
Just got back from your doc and discovered you had low-T all this time, eh? And now you’re all pumped up?
At 50 why would you start doping?

Umm, seems pretty obvious…“The reason I ask is I am targeting to beat this time this year”
No one is accusing of doping. Just having some fun.
Wait until Dr Tommy turns 50
.
With or without a helmet mirror?

Thanks for that, no my real name is not MA or DS.
My current Pb is 9:23 at Roth 2011 with a 3:43 marathon. My training was not good for the running there, longest training run 90 mins. 3 runs a week preparation. 2012 I did World Long course Champs Vittoria, my chain broke 1/2 way round on the bike I was leader on the road and had caught the 45-49 leader on the road, who had a 15 mins head start on the swim start. Running a lot bettter last year (more training), running 1:21 off the bike in a half IM in UK 4:16 final time untapered at the end of hard week of training! So my thinking is 51 swim in Roth 3mins T1 (acc. time 54) 4:35 bike (4:41 2011) data showed me I was 10 mins quicker last year over 4 hours than previous year. 3mins T2 (acc. time 5hrs:32) which gives me 3hrs 20 left to do the run. Last year in IM distance race very low key, under prepared I ran 3:23 (1:31 at 21k) with the wheels well and truly falling off in the last 6k gives me confidence to run sub 3:10, will know nearer the day what pace to run at. Will have try out in World long course over 30k run at target IM run pace. I know this may all seem a bit unusual but by gong semi public about my goal it helps to keep your self focused and motivated. I do have the pedigee for this time. Its quite ironic as in 1981 I tried heaven and earth to get info about Hawaii IM pre google though in order to enter, back then I could run a 21k run in 1:11 and swim 17mins for 1.5k, it didnt happen as I chose a different direction sport wise!
Any help is welcome though.
Thanks again for your reply
defintely without mirror
.
New to IM distances having only done a couple. Just needed to ask as I cant find any data on it. No I am not that fast yet, barring injury I will be though.

You aren’t going public at all if you post anonymously…Good luck though.

I have been tested 100’s of times and never tested positive positive, lol, willing to do blood passport if you can organise and pay for it though
.
He isn’t anonymous any longer…
But how could he possibly be outed ?

Power to you, but where you going to get that hour improvement? If you ran 3:43 at CR and hope to run “sub 3:10”, that’s 33 minutes. That leaves 26 minutes, and with your 4:50 bike and :56 swim, 26 minutes is a LOT. Good luck…

Well I stand corrected I apologize. Best of luck in your quest for the record! Look out for ‘trihard4me’…he’s amazingly fast too!
