Work from home jobs for the computer savy person?

I would like to find some work so that I can earn extra income while my business is growing. I could easily dedicate 20-30 hours a week, maybe more, as long as I have some flexibility with the hours.

I worked as a computer programmer for 20 plus years, so I have excellent computer skills. I think that I write well - though I may use hyphens too often.

I have started looking for consulting work as a programmer, working remotely - but I don’t know how feasible that is. For the IT people - my skill set is centered around Oracle PL/SQL.

I am open to any opportunity as long as it pays fairly well and is flexible.

Any ideas?

I’ve you tried contacting a head hunter?

I don’t know if that’s necessarily the best route, but I do know that telecommuting is becoming MUCH more common these days. In just the last 3 years I’ve seen a huge shift in the workforce with the increased power and dripping prices of laptops, work cell phones, and particularly internet meeting software. The current group I’m in consists on myself located in Delaware (home in PA), a business analyst who works from home in FL, and our manager who works out of NY. I go into the office about once a week anymore.

There’s certainly work for you out there. You just need to find it.

What Barry said - head hunter. Although it doesn’t need to be in that format alone, necessarily. I work in IT and see plenty of consultants who are contractors or full-time employees of firms that we use to grow our bench as necessary. You can find firms who specialize in placing consultants/contractors with firms who need bench strength or project specific support.

Oxford Associates is an example of a firm that might be a good fit for your skills with the flexibility you are looking for:
