So I have moved to the middle of no where and I try to run outside all year round but up here in Maine we do get a lot of snow. I do have snowshoes but am trying to decide if I should break down and get a treadmill.
I really hate running on them though the woodway did really feel different
They are hella expensive though.
I did really move to the middle of no where. So no there are no gyms.
Are you talking about the Woodway curve?
If so then please stay far far away.
The curve is effectively designed to power walk on, not run on.
It promotes horrible biomechanics, by forcing the user to reach forward and pull back, which is NOT how we run.
I was recently at an expo, the Woodway rep was trying to sell me on it, she didn’t know about my background in running biomechanics. I then noticed some kids had gotten onto the treadmills, they COULDNT run on them, they could only run by leaning on the bars and leaning forward to pull back.
I said to her this was a perfect example of how you can’t run on them. Children will just run, however they want, they have fantastic balance and generally run far better than adults.
I watched for most of the day and no child could run on the machine without holding the bars.
I don’t know who they have giving them biomechanics info, but I think they should have their qualifications nulled.
If you are referring to the other Woodway, which is the daddy of all treadmills, flat track with caterpillars, then get it! Our one has been over clocked so hits 30kph!
Yes; if you must spend time on the dreadmill, then get the softest platform made to run on. I would also advise NOT getting the television built into this (or any other treadmill, for that matter). The inherent jiggling seems to break down the electronics long before the rest of the unit. Placing a monitor on your wall nearby with a remote control offers a bigger screen and less break down.
Just keep you eyes open for a used commercial unit. I just picked up a second one for parts for $150 bucks, was like 10K new.
So, there are out there on craigs list.
If it’s something like the Woodway Desmo, yes bite the bullet and get it. I recently bought a treadmill after A LOT of research. I paid a local tech $50 to give me the scoop (he serviced treadmills at LA Fitness, the YMCA, Gold’s Gym, UCF, in addition to treadmills in people’s homes). What I heard about the $900 treadmills from Dick’s etc wasn’t encouraging at all. Long story short he told me he’s never had to do anything to a Woodway other than lube it and that they’re pretty much bomb-proof.

I got a commercial quality Lifetime fitness 9500HR like 7 years ago that was in a private persons home. 300 bucks. Has been used 3 to 7 days a week. Have yet to have to put a penny into it. I just picked up a second one, was in a gym at one point, for $150.
So just no way one has to spend crazy amount of money. One can buy a LOT of used units for the price of one new woodway.
i bought a refurb woodway (new motor, new belt and control unit) so not sure how it’s refurb from the factory but it’s awesome.
got the upgraded motor so it goes to 15mph.
Woodway is by far the best machine I have run on. I do most of my running outside but whenever I run at the club I use a Woodway. It has the best deck out there. If I were to run mostly indoors I would look for a used Woodway.
I have one. Bought it used off eBay. Took about 3 weeks to ship it to the middle of the US from CA. I think I paid about $3k. Also needed to get a special circuit installed in my garage. About the only negative I can say is it’s not really moveable. So if I wanted to move it into my bedroom, I just couldn’t.

It is slightly modified to perform in a weightless environment, but it really has been bomb proof.
Not to hijack this thread but - My path was involved in the massive flooding in LA; how should I go about cleaning and restoring it? I figure, if I can spend a few hundred and save it, it would be much better than buying a cheaper store bought.
I have a Woodway, it’s awesome. It’s like buying a Ferrari or something though . . . cannot be justified from the cost. I agree with the other poster that said avoid the TV. My gym has one with a TV and its annoying as hell how much it moves around. One other recommendation if you pull the trigger: I got one with decline, which raises the deck height. If I weren’t 5’5", the 8’ ceilings in my basement would be uncomfortably low, so keep ceiling height in mind or just don’t get that feature (which sounds like a good Boston training tool or something, but really you won’t use that much).
You can absolutely get some great deals on used units, but please be careful, if possible get serial numbers and service history. If you get a serial number you can always reach out to the Woodway Service department and they can tell you what they know about the history as well.
We do believe we are the best surface on the planet to run on as evident by our customers and most of the comments here. We have also found for most distance athletes the motorized units are the best solution.
While we don’t have a lot of influence over what some of the 3rd party resellers do or don’t do the the equipment if you buy a Woodway we want it to be a fantastic experience so if we can help at all in your search for unit please don’t hesitate to check with us.
