Women's Giro - Raboblock?

This is a serious question for those in the road cycling know: Is it legal to box a rider in, not allowing him/her pass on a climb? Check this out from the Women’s Giro earlier today:

I’ve never seen anything like this before. Abbot looked ready to fly away…

I don’t know. I know it happens kind of in the sprints, but I’ve never seen anything like this before and I watch just about every race. At the very least it seems extremely amateur.

Emma Pooley was f’in FLYING.

As for the blocking… Yes, totally legal. And a totally douche move. Had teams try that shit when I was racing. They’d soon find themselves very unpopular and the butt end of EVERY teams’ tactics.

This was on the last climb of the biggest race of the year for the Women. I have a hard time picturing this going down on le Alpe or the Tourmelet. One second thought, would have been pretty interesting how Lance or Floyd (or even a post-crash Cadel) would have reacted to moves like these. Hopefully less sad than that bike-fight clip that went viral a few years ago…

I heard at a local race that no breakaway got away during a road race so a team of 5 guys lined up across the road to the centre line (crossing is a DQ).
Noone could pass so they finished in the 1st to 5th spots. Clever bastards.

In the women’s mass start events at the track world championships, there is almost a crash every year because a rider moves without looking. I think part of it is at the level these ladies are riding, they aren’t used to having to look for anybody close to them and just get into bad habits, the other part is if there was a video of 100% of what anyone did in a race, there would be bonehead move or two for most of us.

Did you watch the video? Because your comments seem completely unrelated to it.

Unless that is payback for something earlier, that is pretty awful.

Mara needs to just not accept that though. Grab a hand full of hip and move it out of the way.

Dats sum busch league bullshit. The actual blocking her in on the sides of the road… weak sauce but OK. The surging and swerving across the road to cut off her passes is a pretty dangerous IMO. Could have easily clipped Abbots front wheel and taken her out.
