Interested in checking out the LifeTime Fitness Triathlon course? Want to see what a $500,000 triathlon looks like? Of course you do and Bauer Tri News is here to help. We’ve plotted the course, taken notes and captured some photos. It’s a great course that includes a calm swim, a bike with hills and flat straight aways, and a run that couldn’t be any flatter. You can see it all at: LifeTime Fitness Olympic Course
I just rode the course yesterday and it is looking good, a few bumpy streches but it will be a fast course. I can not wait to ride it at full speed and not have to worry about the cars and all the stop lights.
nice work with the pics and route outline. I hope people pay attention to a few of the 90-180 degree turns, some of them will be really tight
WOW! That map is the coolest thing I have ever seen in my life!
Thanks for producing it and making it available.
I am excited for the race next weekend.
Any word on expected water temp and what that means for wetsuits?
I swam in Lake Nokomis on Saturday and the water is pretty warm. If I had to guess, I would say it’s hovering around 75 degrees. I plan to head out and measure the water temp later this week. I don’t expect that temp to increase too much since thunderstorms are slated for later tonite. Check www.bauertrinews.com later this week for updates on the temperature.

I wouldn’t count on being able to use your wetsuit. I biked and ran the course on Saturday and then checked out the lake. It was really warm. And with the forecast for sunny/partly couldy and highs in the upper 80s/90s and lows in the upper 60s/70s all week, it will probably get warmer.
BTW: What is that bunny on M’haha and Portland?!? I missed it on my ride - I was too busy looking out for traffic.
The minneapolis parks and rec has a web site the temp is listed at 79.7 degrees as of this morning. So pretty much your hopes of racing in a website are over. Especially with the weather being in the 90 all week it will be a warm swim.

Perhaps I will be comforted by the warm, womb like water temps, comforting me to the point that I will not panic during the swim without a wetsuit.
How about the bike, can I wear my wetsuit during the bike?
I wanna see in the rules where it says that I can not!
can you say CHAFING and heat stroke.
It would be interesting to see until you fell off your bike from passing out from heat stroke.
Maybe a 5 gallon waterjug would help, just strap it to your back and go like the wind.
A few corrections…
-
You go under the Ford Parkway Bridge and coverleaf to the eastbound traffic lane.
-
At Harriet, it’s a hard-right onto E Lake Harriet Blvd (not the parkway) up the little roller.
Didn’t have time to look over more closely…but it is a very cool map.
I’m not affliliated, nor do I work for LTF.

I was impressed when I noticed you could zoom out… all the way out !!
A bit later I worked out it runs through http://maps.google.com/ This is super cool, with varying levels of detail depending where in the US or the world you are looking. 2 hours of my life just disappeared as I checked out a few cities (found my house too !!), and then ski resorts and mountain ranges across the US and Europe. Way cool.
Yes, the map does very much run on Google Maps. Of course the real value comes when you do something with the maps google offers - like plot triathlon courses over them. They also have a product called Google Earth that is 3D and quite cool. It’s in beta right now, so we’ll have to wait.
As a side note, if any RD wants a map like this PM me.
