WKO+ won't download my PT data!

I received my WKO+ cd yesterday afternoon and settled down to install the software and download my Polar and Powertap data. The Polar was a breeze and the software found it straight away (which is surprising since the Polar software finds that tricky every now and then)!

The problem I have is downloading from my PT 2.4, WKO finds the Joe athlete files but will not find mine. I have updated to v2.2 and tried all the various port settings, I have tried the suggestions for connecting the cradle first then the head unit that appear on the wiki pages as well as the suggestions that PT support sent in their automatic response.

I gave up after 5 hours yesterday and can’t get it to connect now either, HELP!

Are you using the USB port driver? I’ve had instances with my SRM where other USB drivers/apps resident in memory appeared to be causing a conflict. It’s been sporadic but disconnecting the other devices and rebooting has always solved the problem.

Just to clarify that you set up yourself correctly as an athlete in WKO are you able to open the files if you download them directly from your PT/head unit? I’m assuming the PT came with software that can do it. When I was troubleshooting my problems I was able to use the software that came with the SRM, download the power files to the PC hard drive, then go into WKO and open them. That led me to the problem being the WKO specific driver files that connect to the head unit.

Are you using the USB port driver? I’m assuming yes as it adds USB port to the selected port when I connect and select. Just to clarify that you set up yourself correctly as an athlete in WKO are you able to open the files if you download them directly from your PT/head unit? Yes, I have myself set up as an athlete in WKO, which is where the polar files are going. I can also downloading the PT files ok on power agent which is PT’s software package. I expected to have to import the polar files over to WKO but don’t expect to have to do that for all of the new PT files too.

Just got a response from Saturday evening’s request from WKO support suggesting that I download v2.2, but I already have.

Dr. C, any pointers please.

You should really direct your questions to WKO+ technical support.

While Dr Coggan developed many of the ideas used in the software (TSS, Normalised Power, Performance Manager etc) he was not responsible for how they were implemented nor has any share in or association with its operation.

Seconded.

Contact customer techical support, Julian. I’ve gotten fast, efficient and correct answers when I’ve had to call them.

I have (as stated in post 4) and they haven’t been able to help. My original title did not include Andre’s title but since I was not getting a result from them or STers I added hins name to the title. I shall remove it from the title and sit around until someone can help.
OK?

Well go back to them again. They’ve had this question plenty of times I’m sure.

One of my client’s had a similar problem saris couldn’t help with in the end despite lots of suggestions. It turned out they had a bung USB port on their laptop.

I have had a very similar problem downloading my Powertap 2.4 to Trainingpeaks. My Forerunner 305 uploads perfectly directly from the device, but the Powertap does not (for whatever reason).

While it is a bit more cumbersome, what I have been doing is “exporting” my Powertap workouts from Poweragent and saving each workout as a separate file on my hard drive. Then, when I’m logged into training peaks, I click on the “upload data” button on the daily log and select the file I want to upload using the “browse” function. This has worked for me every time.

Again, this method obviously is more cumbersome than uploading directly from the device itself. But it works, which is more than I was able to accomplish with the direct route for the same reasons you mentioned.

I did go back to them and was waiting for a response when you posted, with the time difference it seems to take 2 days to get a short response. Yesterday I received try the wiki pages and “have you downloaded the latest version”.

What’s a bung USB port? Unserviceable?

Phone them. Use Skype or similar at 1 p / min it won’t cost the earth.

“Bung” - an aussie term meaning buggered, broken, no good but not necessarily unrepairable.

I don’t have skype just a mobile which would be prohibitive. Copy the bung, cheers.

First make sure only WKO+ is running and that PowerAgent is not running in the background. Second, on the drop down for determining which device you are using, does it say Comm Port XX (USB)? For me to get it to work, I had to start WKO+. Then plug in the adapter. At that point my windows machine detected the new hardware and I waited until it said it was ready to use. Then I went into WKO+ and made sure the device was selected and the Com port XX (USB) was selected. Next, I mounted the PT computer and hit mode. The screen switched to Host and then I could download the data.

I have only run WKO+ with Poweragent closed and have the Comms port selected which has (USB serial port) displayed next to it in the training device port window. It has already been identifed by windows as it works fine with Poweragent. I then follow the sequence that you outline in your post, but then it downloads files from 2005! But none of my files come out. Another point of frustration is that I can’t get the windows to clear the device to become active and therefore it downloads the same 12k records and 6 files from March and April of 2005.

Do you know how I can transfer the files I have stored in Poweragent over to WKO+? I think this might be the only way I can use the damn thing with my powertap.

in the help file, just type import and there is a tutorial on importing the data from your Powertap files.

Thanks Mark, hopefully WKO+ support will be able to help me eventually.

To be honest, I just got mine working yesterday and I only had the one file on it (new to Powertap.) It took quite a bit of handwringing, burning of sage, and holding my tongue just right to get it to synch up. In this regard, the Ergomo was much easier to deal with.

Your other option is to go to Tools → Recover Data from PowerTap. That is supposed to download all data from the PT at once.

Is that Tools in Poweragent, WKO or Windows? Poweragent Tools only offers me “clear or configure device” whilst Recover data from standard powertap just unloads the same damn files from 2005!

that was WKO+ for the Tools->recover option.

I didnt know the PT stored data beyond the single ride that was on it.

According to WKO it doesn’t but the same 2005 files keep downloading. The latest help I got from them was a wiki refernce for importing from PT and the suggestion that these 2005 files are appearing because I haven’t set the time/date correctly on the PT :frowning:
