WKO v TP v Golden Cheetah v Garmin Connect v...?

What’s the best software option for tracking powermeter based training? I’m not currently tracking anything except that I’ve done it for swim/run. I am mostly interested in the power metrics, and wanted opinions on what people are using and why.

Thanks!

John

Golden Cheetah has everything I need for cycling and it’s free. If I felt like I needed that type of analysis for the swim and run, I’d get Race Day Apollo.

The basic version of TP and Garmin Connect aren’t useful enough for cycling.

I used WKO for a few years, and then switched to Golden Cheetah when the new WKO came out and they wanted me to buy a full price version (instead of a small upgrade price) and stopped supporting the old version.

And I’m glad that happened, because GC is awesome. Much more powerful than WKO.

TP is just plain clunky. Plus, you have to pay in order to look at interval data.

Garmin Connect is decent for looking at individual workouts, but nothing complex and no long-term tracking.

GarminC is free and it has all u need…

GoldenC is free and it has everything u need for power meter analysis…

save u yourself some $$$

I’ve been using WKO+ for a few years and like it a lot. I have no interest in any of TP’s online features though so I do not subscribe to the service.

I toyed with GC for a while too and considered making the switch. I didn’t see enough to warrant the transfer of my files though. Aerolab is pretty cool - I would like to get to know it better this summer.

Can’t comment on Garmin Connect.

Garmin Connect doesn’t have a performance manager- where it tracks your ATL, CTL, SB based on TSS.
It’s fine for logging your power rides and seeing your numbers, but it doesn’t really help you manage your training load and optimize your race day readiness.

if that’s what you were looking for

Thanks. If that’s the case…Garmin Connect is a toy, not a software to manage your training.

I’m sure that the team at Garmin would take that as an insult, as Garmin Connect is a pretty handy, fairly comprehensive, and very easy to use tool for everyone that has any kinda’ garmin that wants to upload their data. Pretty fully featured in that it will give you nice swimming set plots, running stuff, cycling info. Plots on temperature, corrected altitude etc, and is a fine storehouse for all your GPS/workout data- which you can easily export from there. You can put in courses, create custom workouts to download to your device. it even has training plans and will give you heat maps of where people run/ride.

but yeah- it’s not a power training tool. No “performance manager”. toy?

I can’t disagree with anything you’ve written. It should also be noted again that I’ve never used Garmin Connect.

The PMC is probably the most important thing I get out of WKO though. I’m surprised they wouldn’t have something like this.

I’ll toss in a late vote for the desktop version of SportsTracks

And Sporttracks.mobi is coming along nicely too
.

Yeah. I use both but the mobi version isn’t there quite yet in terms of heavy analysis and the ability to utilize plugins. It’s great for logging simple workouts from my iPhone and they synch perfectly

I Like Raceday Apollo this port performance monitoring.

I still use golden cheetah for individual ride evaluation when necessary. I also like the constant ftp estimation.

Garmin connect is alright but lack of a performance manager or the ability to review any segment of data without a predefined interval hurts it’s functionality.

I am slightly biased since I’ll be starting a job there in a couple weeks… But I would seriously keep an eye on Strava’s power analysis and recent training chart work. I get segment performance history, a nice power curve(overall and per workout), stress scores and all the usual metrics you would expect. Obviously there are some huge differences between something like Strava and TP, but for $6 a month it’s hard to go wrong. If someone has something they’ve been dying for in the app, PM me with requests and I’ll pass it along once I start.

RaceDay Apollo.
