Wisdom teeth removal + exercise

Answer’s will vary i’m sure, but wondering when I can hop back on the bike and start riding again…maybe light spinning?
Had all 4 removed last friday under IV sedation.

I had all 4 removed under GA (stitches too) and was back working out a week later because it took until then for me to be a) actually feeling like I wanted to work out and b) be eating enough to have the energy to workout. I found it was impact that made me uncomfortable (so no plyometrics) so light spinning sounds like something that would have been fine for me.
Hope your recovery goes well.

I would think you would be able to get back to business as usual on Monday. Unless… You still have throbbing pain or currently have swelling still. Also depends on how difficult your procedure was and your age. You’ll bounce back faster if you’re younger. Some wisdom teeth flick out in 30 seconds. Some take a little more work.

I had 4 chiseled out with just local anesthetic. Worked out lightly the next day. Back to full power in 2 days.

But your results may vary.

^^This. If your mouth still hurts then just cut back some. But you should still get out there.

Please wait atleast 72 hours prior to any physical activity. The extraction site contains a blood clot that is important in the bone remodeling of the extraction area. If that clot comes out of the extraction location you will develop alveolar osteitis (dry socket) and will be in a good amount of discomfort.

A soft diet for a week or so, adequate pain medication, and warm salt water irrigation via a very light swishing is important for the healing process as well. Consult your dentist or oral surgeon if you develop any symptoms within the first 72 hours after your surgery.

do they still pre-medicate with antibiotics in the day or two before surgery? i did and was good to go a few days later.

try to keep food out of the socket; rice is not recommended for at least a week…

I had one removed in college on the December 21st or so. I was able to get back in the water for swimming on December 26th - dates approximate, but I probably could have done some easy spinning the day after had I been doing tris then. Runing probably would have been around the same as swimming.

Friday the 1st? You should be fine. I just had 3 wisdom teeth extracted on Jul 20th. I probably rushed back too soon only a couple days after and had some mediocre workouts, but in a week or so I was 100%. Your body will let you know, so depends on how you feel.

I had all 4 out 2 weeks ago today and I was back to 100% about a week out. I iced a lot the first 48 hous and I had to take pain killers to get to bed for about the first week. Bottom 2 were impacted top 2 were simple extractions. Doctor said I could do whatever I felt up to after about 24 hours, so I swam 2500 meters at an easy pace about 20 hours after surgery (woke up early from having slept half the previous day) and rode 35 miles at an easy pace after the swim. The hardest part was keeping satiated on the soft food diet. As for pain my jaw is still sore after meals which I think isn’t from the actual removal as much as the being propped open so wide for so long but I’m able to eat normally again as long as I rinse well afterwards. Just take it easy for a few days and then start to ease back into it.

Follow the advice of your doc. And you will be further ahead than not.
When I broke my femer from a car accident my doc said listen to your body. I didn’t take pain meds and walked 3 miles a day on a broken leg. 4 half ironmans later I reg for two fulls this season.
Your gonna be just fine.
