Wireless Routers

I am looking for a new wireless router. Since I just have DSL, I am not as concerned with speed as I am with range. We have a larger ranch home and currently I have issues getting a signal at the farmost ends of our house. Does anyone know of or have a router that has exceptional range?

we use a Linksys 2.4ghz Model wrt54gs that covers a 3,100 SF one story house and probably several of our neighbors.

I have used the Linksys and it work fine in my house and the base was about 50’ from my laptop.
Before I hooked it up I have a bulit in card in my laptop and was able to log in to 2 systems in my
neighborhood.People leave themselves wide open, make sure it is secure.

I am using a D-Link DIR-655 shown here:

It works great in my ranch home. And it is very fast.

802.11n (Draft Standard) routers will generally get you more range than b/g, and much more than a. We’ve got a Belkin N1 router in the front of the house and a 1/3 acre backyard. I can be at the back far corner of the yard and have no problem getting a high quality signal.

False.

It is not the AP as much as it is the antenna and contruction material of your home.

I use this AP (behind a Cisco 501 Firewall) http://www.3com.com/products/en_US/detail.jsp?tab=features&pathtype=purchase&sku=3CRWE776075

I have 5dBa Omnidirectional antennas installed and in my attic. Easily pick up my SSID from over two miles away at my coffee joint where I often work. Granted I am slow from that distance but it connects.

Wait wait wait a minute. Let me get this straight. You’re a barista?

Oh hell no, I would not last a day serving coffee…I do my work there.

My D-Link DI-624 just gave up on me after 4 years of ownership. Looking to replace on ASAP - any recommendations?

I know people that have had great results with that. I am lucky enough that I wired my house so I put a wireless router on each side and give the routers the same names - I never drop.
