I am interested in getting a wireless cycling computer with cadence. I’m looking for one that is user-friendly, low maintenance, etc. The ones I hear about most are Vetta and Cateye. Any suggestions?
I have the Cateye. I’m happy with it. it does both speed and cadence and doesn’t interfere with my Garman 305 HRM.
I’ve used Cat Eye, Polar (x2) and Vetta (x2) in that order. The Vetta is a much better computer. Easy to install, very easy to use, and the sensors have a stronger signal than the others.
The cadence on the Polar I had would not let you adjust the sampling rate so it didn’t update quite as often as I’d like to see. The Vetta is a lot more responsive to minor changes in cadence. That seems like a minor deal but the Polar always felt like it was telling you how fast you were pedaling. Additionally the transmitter on the Polar has a lot shorter signal range so you are limited in your placement options. You can mount the Vetta transmitter/sensor pretty much anywhere and get a perfect read.
I also had problems w/ the Polar 300 just dropping signal (seemed to alternate dropping speed and cadence) no matter where it was placed. It would drop to zero for a couple of seconds and then pick back up. I replaced the batteries and I ride out in BFE so I’m pretty sure it wasn’t interference.
I just got my second Vetta and they’ve added the blinking light on the sensor to make it easier to determine the proper spacing between the magnet. I can’t say enough good things about the Vettta, I’m about to buy another one so all my bikes have one.
My biggest complaint with the CatEye was the display. Way too much information displayed and the font was somewhat difficult to read. The Vetta has a really bold font that is easy to see.

i use the cateye double wireless. works like a charm, but it seems like the batteries wear out quickly. But I don’t have anything to compare it against, except cheapy, $20 cycling computers (only other computers I’ve used)
I’ve got the Mavic unit w/ the front wheel sensor in the QR. Works like a charm, simple display, easy to read, uncomplicated
Had the Cateye CD300DW wireless but eventually switched out because I had problems with it making my Polar HRM go haywire.
I’m using a Polar CS200CAD now and couldn’t be happier.

I agree Coker! I LOVE my Polar unit, but have the Cateye double wireless on my tri bike and I can’t believe how fast the batteries wear out (and it takes 2 of them pricey little buggers). Works great though.
One thing I like about the Cateye Double Wireless is that the speed sensor is on the back tire. I do a lot of my riding on a trainer, and so my front wheel doesn’t move for much of my training time. If the speed sensor is on the front wheel, it’s worthless on the trainer.
