Wireless Bike Computers

Anyone use the Specialized or Vetta wireless computer with cadence. If so any comments. How does the wireless cadence work?

Let me preface this by saying this opinion may already be obsolete by a product I am not yet aware of (but would be willing to try). We (Bikesport)don’t sell wireless cyclocomputers with the exception of the fairly standard front-wheel reading Cateye Wireless. We sell about 500 cyclometers a year, maybe more, all of them Cateye Velo 2, Cateye Astrale and less than 50 Wireless units. The only ones we ever have problems with is the wireless ones. The darn signal just seems to be too weak. The other brands are a real pain in the butt. I’m not a big fan of wireless cyclometers yet. I’ll take the cables and consistent operation.

I have always felt this way too. However, now that I’m using the Polar 710, the wireless speed (and soon to be cadence) seem worth it. I’ve been using the speed for several months now with no problems. While I’ve heard complaints about the reliability of the polar power attachment, I haven’t heard problems with the speed/cadence that weren’t solved by flipping the high-power dipswitch. This has been unnecessary for me (I’m riding a 58" litespeed frankenbike, hey! it was cheap!), but is well documented on the web.

I used a Vetta wireless for a couple of years (No cadence however). It worked fine but gave up the ghost after too many rainstorms (those Georgia ones in which you get an inch in 10 minutes). I went to a Performance Axiom wired speed/cadence. It worked for about 9 months and then the screen froze. I can’t get it to change screens, although it shows the speed and cadence just fine. So that one is out the door and I am going to go back to a wireless speed-only computer. I have decided cadence is not worth anything. All I learned is that my cadence is just fine, and it adds nothing at all to my training (I originally got it out of curiosity and have satisfied that) plus the wiring is ugly.

i have asked the same question. I was wondering about the vetta myself, because i want a wireless cadence. I have called vetta at least 3 times and sent then 2 emails, but they havent responded. So, my $.02 is that their customer service sucks, and i refuse to buy their product. i guess i will have to keep looking.

I’ve got the Vetta with cadence on order.
I’ll report back as soon I’ve tried it out.

I have a Sports INstruments SI 90 wireless, which I won, and I have to say it has worked great over the last year, no hiccups at all, probably the best computer I have had, no problems at all. Has heart rate function but not cadence.

Isn’t it fun rummaing around at the bottom of the forum list. It’s like going back in time, or digging around in the back of the basement.

Tom D. was a slowtwitch noob back then check it out he signed up days before. I feel like an internet acheologist.

I must be bored…

How about the Mavic WinTech? Just got one and seems pretty decent so far. I like the fact that all I did was mount the magnet and the computer. The pickup is in the skewer.

You could spend DAYS rummaging back through the Tibbs stuff. Don’t even get started unless you have a lot of time to kill. It will suck you in!

I have a number of years on a pair of wireless VDO’s (one on a road bike the other on the tri-bike) - no cadence. Thousands of miles, in all conditions (including dumping rain), never a failure other or blipped reading.

I would never go back to wires!

“I would never go back to wires!”

Joe,

I choose to ride computer-less, these days, but if I ever went back to riding with one, I would go wire-less.

The VDO’s are very good.

i ran a Trek incite 8i on the Caliente this year without an issue.

must have looked at it right or sumthin

Or 4 years have passed…

I swear by the Sigma 1600 for its functionality, durability and ease of install, use and overall quality. German engineering at a high level.

Regards,

I’ve been using the WinTech for the past 2 years and have been very pleased with it. Sure beats having those wires hanging all over the place. After 2 years, still haven’t replaced the batteries.

Well I’m sure someone out there has had good luck with the Vettas, for myself and a few friends of mine they have been horrible. Tried too for a friend, exchanged the first one, 2nd one went on ebay.

That said, I’ve heard good things about the Specialized but only used their wired models.

I LOVE MY POLAR CS200cad wireless:)

My Wintech is crap, need to reconfigure it regularly. Just ordered an Cateye enduro to replace it…

no…really…just one
.

Just pointing out that the OP posted this question/topic 4 years ago (and actually hasn’t logged in for over 3 years).
