I am planning to spend the winter training in AZ…as a competitive age-grouper 30-35 female. My dad lives in DC ranch…so I’m considering living up there. Any recommendations on groups to train with, specifically running and biking. I know I can swim at Cactus pool.

A few of us STr’s will be training for during those winter months for IMAZ and Cali 1/2/“70.3”; myself, briantryntri, desert_dude, Marisol and a few others. Look us up when you get here. hey steph, I have a condo in scottsdale, really closed to DC ranch and go train there in the winter. I am also in the 30-34 age group… I made my own groups to train with, had a post on ST every week-end. I swam at cactus as well. Biking to bartlett lake from there is great. I miss phoenix:-(
Look on DeeAnn Bonnell’s site “azcoaching.com” for a lot of workouts with her athletes, including open water swimming, long rides, track or trainer workouts - fees for some but a lot you can just show up for.
DC ranch is a great place to be - close to Cave Creek- Carefree- Lake Pleasant- Rio Verde etc etc rides. IF you can use DC ranch facilities they have several community pools and there’s also a new city aquatics center openening next year- i think they say “spring”.
Look me up a at SASSI Restaurant, I’ll always buy a glass of wine for a visiting triathlete.
Plenty of people here to work out with. Everyone kicks ass in their own way. Desert Dude kicks ass at all three, Marisol kicks ass at all three, Mojo kicks ass at bike/run, Mrs. Desert Dude bike/run, and many others. Some even have time for long runs/rides during the week as well. We will keep you busy! I know there are a ton of triathletes that do really well in the area so training partners will not be a problem. Look us up!!!
Just a heads up to all you AZ folks out there: You have a new triathlete resident moving your way. Former Santa Rosa resident Karen Chequer-Pfifer (hope I have it spelled right) moved to Scottsdale this week. She is the reigning WORLD champion for female, age 45-49. She is also a swim coach who coached our masters team.
Karen and family moved to Scottsdale just this week so if you see a blond haired lady on a Airborne tri bike out there say hi. Her husband Jeff is also a heck of an athlete (especially swim/bike). Our loss is your gain!
