Winter Swim Camps?

Does the following exist??

My girlfriend and I were discussing winter plans, and thought the idea of a masters swim camp would be lots of fun… ideally like a university team training camp but for older, slightly slower people.

We would be looking for over christmas - new years ish, ideally someplace down south where its warm… does anyone have any leads?
In terms of ability - I’m 4.35 / 400 (scm) and she’s a 1:08 /100 backstroker… we’d be looking for 3-4 h in water a day.

Thanks!!

The St-er known as “SnappingT” is offering a swim training camp in Houston for pro triathletes, but it doesn’t start until 3 Jan and goes until 31 Jan. Even if you and your GF don’t consider yourselves to be “professionals”, you are both certainly fast enough to train with most of them. Here’s the link to his 1 Nov post. I think sending him a PM would work best.

Disclaimer-never done it. Just did a search.

You just missed the adult USOTC camp in October. If you want a serious camp, getting into this one would probably foot that bill.

Disclaimer-never done the camp but have trained at the USOTC.

How about make it a killer excuse to escape the cold in case you live up north AND a training camp? Gary Hall and The Race Club have all kinds of insanely awesome camps year around. And you can be assured it’s not some hack guessing, but one of the most knowledgeable minds on the pool deck anywhere in the world. Oh you might have to share his pool with some ‘other’ swimmers like current and former World and Olympic Champions this time of year too in case you don’t like sharing;) Lot’s of them head south to get some sunshine and swim in The Keys over the winter.

Would love that but unfortunately have to be back for Jan 4th!

Thanks! Just looking at his webpage it looks super expensive!

I thought that might be the case but just throwing it out as a possibility, since Tim knows a lot about swimming:)
.

Thanks for mentioning the Race Club for winter Swim Camp. We would love to have you! We cater to each triathlete and swimmer and their travel schedule. you can sign up for as many sessions as you’d like while you’re in Islamorada. You get so much out of one 2 hour session. There are low coach to swimmer ratios. For example, our Thanksgiving camp, we have 5 adults signed up. We have 3 coaches. Email me for ??s. amy@theraceclub.com http://www.theraceclub.com/swim-camps/

If you want to come down to swim with the team you and your girlfriend are welcome. Send me a PM and we can discuss what you are looking to accomplish.

Best regards,

Tim Floyd

This company is out of Toronto and they offer swim camps at various locations. I have never done them but know an associate coach of the owner and she’s great.

Hmmmm have not been on their site in some time, but if memory serves when I priced it out last year it came to ~ $75/hour which is right in line with coached sessions in my area…who have far less pedigree than the Hall’s. YMMV…if you feel you are overpaying it won’t be fun and that has to be part of the equation! Have a great trip wherever you end up!

Well, Its partially the money, but partially that I can’t afford how much I’d like to swim… 4h/day X several days adds up pretty quick!

I think I’d just go somewhere warm like Coronado, CA, where you can get a nice room cheap and swim to your heart’s content in their 50-m pools. The link below is to the “Brian Bent Memorial Aquatic Complex” which is the main swim facility in Coronado. Click on their “Swim and Stay Packages” and you’ll see rooms starting at $42/night. I’ve heard that lots of teams do training camps here so you and the GF could prob pick up some free coaching, and/or just buy a 30-min coaching session once a day and swim the other 3.5 hrs:)
