I live somehwere where we have no masters swim programs. I go away every winter train and this year i want to go to a warm climate that has decent biking , running (well ,I can run anywhere) and a kick a** masters swim program. Preferably an outdoor 50M pool! I need to work on my swimming this winter. Anyone have any ideas??
Adelaide, Australia. Burnside pool. Done!
In the US??
Check out the International Swimming Hall of Fame Aquatics Team down in Ft. Lauderdale. I swam at the pool as a youngster in a variety of meets and winter training trips and they have phenominal facilities (as one would expect from the Swimming Hall of Fame) that includes a 50m outdoor pool. A quick check of their site makes it look like they also have a good master’s program and you could probably drop in with them. The pool is also near the beach and the boardwalk area so I imagine you could get in some good biking and running as well.
I also know that there’s an outdoor pool in Maui that has something like a $3 drop-in fee but have no idea if they have a masters program. Though the running in Maui is great!
Maybe you should have specified USA in your original post?
Anyways… MAUI.
I swim w/ SCAQ. We have access to three outdoor 50m pools:

wow, lucky you. Which pool/workout is best? Do the coaches give any stroke work or do they sit on deck and read the paper? Where is the best place in that area to live. How is the biking and running?
Thanks.
I really like the morning workouts at Santa Monica and Culver City. Of those my favorites are Mon, Tue, Thu, Fri, and Sat because they are usually mid/distance free. If you want to get a feel for the type of workouts, I am posting most of the workouts I am doing this month in the “It’s NOVEMBER! the official Swim Challenge Thread”. Coaches definitely do not sit on the deck and read the paper but the amount of individual attention you are going to get depends on the number of people at the workout. That being said, if you ask most of the coaches to look at your stroke and give you some pointers, they will definitely help you out.
I live in Santa Monica and love it but there are a ton of different areas around here. Running is really good in Santa Monica. There’s great running in a lot of different places. Santa Monica City College also has a great track.
There is a lot of traffice to worry about when biking but there are a lot of different groups you can hook up w/ if you are interested (LA Tri Club, Velo La Grange, etc.). If you are interested in Santa Monica / Los Angeles, there are a variety of other things to check out:
