Winter bike fitness

Very eager to improve my riding. Fairly strong swimmer, runner, bike has improved, but needs work. Aside from just more time on the bike(obviously), and of course quality rides, I am planning on incorporating more core and LE strengthening this winter. I am a wuss and hate riding below 40 degrees and was planning on purchasing a spinner/indoor cycle to add to my training. (plus my wife could use it). I hate my rear wheel trainer! Any suggestions for spin cycle purchases?? Any other suggestions? Thanks

What would be the difference between a “spinner/indoor cycle” and just clamping a trainer to the bike you already have? Switching bikes between yours/hers is easy?

if you’re going to cough up the cash for your own indoor spinner you might want to try googling insideride rollers.

i use a cycleops for indoor workouts. i really like having a spin bike for training. i hated puting my bike into a trainer. plus i’ve been able to easliy try a variety of positions on the spin bike before messing around with my tri bike. plus it’s very stable for standing climbs and sprinting. i strongly recommend anyone get a spin bike if they have room. you can get a refurbished or used one for almost what you pay when you add up all the costs of a clamp in trainer (extra wheel, cogset, tire, chain wear) not to mention the hassle factor.
as for cycleops, good points and bad. mostly good but i don’t like the bars and you can’t change them out.

I’d suggest getting into cyclocross, but “wimp” doesn’t quite go well with that …

Just jealous 'cause you are a “fairly strong swimmer”
